The Hawks start a new home stand tonight, rematching against Victoria

EDMONTON, AB- The Edmonton Riverhawks are going to get their share of home cooking this week. The Riverhawks (3-5) begin a six game homestand when they entertain the Victoria HarbourCats (3-6) beginning Tuesday at RE/MAX Field. Opening pitch is 7:05 PM MDT.
This will be the second time in a week that these two foes have faced each other in WCL action. The Riverhawks and HarbourCats met head-to-head in BC’s capital with Victoria winning two of the three contests. The HarbourCats outscored Edmonton 23-18.
The Riverhawks enter Tuesday’s contest three games behind front running Wenatchee in the WCL North Division. Victoria stands three and a half back. The HarbourCats were swept this past weekend by the visiting Kelowna Falcons while the Riverhawks lost two of three in Nanaimo.
“We are playing better baseball, still a lot we need to work on,” stated Riverhawks head coach Jake Lanferman about their 2 and 4 road swing. “Defence was a lot better than the games at home and we were more consistent. Pitchers are forcing hitters to put balls in play and limiting walks from where we were to begin the season.”
He adds, “ We need to be tougher in the box and minimize strike outs. We’ve been inconsistent with offensive production right now. I don’t think we have played our best baseball as a unit and that’s what we’re trying to work towards on this homestand.”
Riverhawks first baseman/DH #51 Easton Andrews has been on a tear offensively. He leads the WCL in runs batted in with 19, tied for the league lead in homers with three and stands third in the WCL in batting average at .444.
Lanferman has this assessment of his first-year player. “ His consistency has come as a surprise. He’s been an elite hitter and his at-bats are great. We knew the power upside was there with him but he’s exceeding all expectations for sure.”
This will be Edmonton’s third home game of the season. They have seen 11,543 people go through the turnstiles (3rd overall in the WCL in 2026) and have had the best average attendance at home so far with 5,772.
Victoria is 1-2 on the road this season. They lead the West Coast League with 31 stolen bases. #18 Erik Rico is third in the WCL in strikeouts with 13.
“Victoria is always a tough team to play against,” Lanferman states. “ They just got swept against Kelowna so they’ll be playing tough to get back into the win column.”
The Riverhawks continue to have players filtering into the clubhouse with #2 Drew Veatch (Outfield, Andover, KS), Cole Kreisel (Infield, Warrensberg, MO), #41 Trey Nance (RHP Lake Stevens,WA), Cale Clark (Outfield, Marionsville, MO), Finnegan Stewart, #3 Devon Simonton (Infield, Antioch, CA), Treyton DesLauriers (LHP, Olath, KS) and Chris Massey (LHP, Springfield, MO) expected to arrive during the six game homestand.
Promotion wise: Tuesday’s contest is “Strike Out Cancer”. The Riverhawks will be wearing special Lavender Jerseys (which will be auctioned off after the contest). The auction is supporting Kids with Cancer Agency and the Riverhawks Community Foundation. The uniforms are sponsored by Delta Valley Landscaping.
Wednesday’s game is “School Spirit & Mascot Mania”. Over 7 thousand elementary students will be crashing the ball park for an 11 AM MDT start time. This event is presented by Qualico.
Thursday’s contest-the final one of the series-has been deemed: “Theatre Kids Are Taking Over”. Any youth wearing a theatre character costume will get in free if they present themselves at the Riverhawks box office! Youth must be accompanied by a paying adult. Complimentary tickets are subject to availability and will be provided in Silver, Bronze or Bleacher seating. Opening pitch is 7 PM MDT and it’s the ‘Thirsty Thursday Promotion.”
