The Edmonton Riverhawks finish their 2026 WCL season just shy of making their third playoff appearance as they were shut out by the Bellingham Bells. In the regular season finisher, the Hawks didn’t have any rallies in their pockets as they consistently got runners on base but couldn’t cash them in until the very end of the game.


A big part of the Edmonton Riverhawks’ fate laid in their own hands tonight, as they needed a win to stay in the mix for a playoff position. Taking on the Bellingham Bells in the final game of the regular season, the Hawks had split the series entering today’s game and also needed one of Kelowna or Nanaimo to lose in order to earn a postseason berth. Unfortunately for the Riverhawks, neither scenario arose as both the Falcons and the NightOwls look to be victorious while the Riverhawks were not.


There was no overwhelming fault in the Riverhawks’ approach tonight, just a consecutive set of bad luck with runners in scoring position. Before the 9th they were only batting 1-for-13 with batters on base, and unable to get any hits with runners in scoring position.

Huebner retired his first two batters with minimal effort required, but the Bells had an impact moment as Noah Cassie hit a solo home run on a 1-0 count to put Bellingham in the lead. While the Hawks only managed to strand 

in the 2nd after he walked, Bellingham kept the offence up in their half. A pair of singles and a fielder’s choice led to the Bells having runners on the corners against Huebner, then an Edmonton E5 let another Bells run in. Thanks to a grounder to third, neither runner could advance, then a fly ball skied to right stopped Bellingham from plating any more runners in the 2nd.

Huebner earned his second strikeout of the game to kick off the bottom of the 3rd, catching the batter looking. After an easy grounder, Cole saw a hit and a steal before retiring the side with another infield grounder. In the 4th, 

 knocked a single up the middle to reach base, then move to second on a wild pitch. An infield fly and a chopper to first once again stranded the tying pair on base as the game moved to the bottom of the 4th. Thankfully, Huebner retired the side in just four pitches, swiftly getting the Hawks back to the batters box.

Huebner continued his solid start as he once again retired the side in order in the bottom of the 5th, with the only extended at bat being his third strikeout of the game. After retiring his first batter of the 6th, Huebner gave up a single to centre and finished his start at 5.1 IP, with three strikeouts and six hits allowed.

, who needed just a single pitch to induce a 6-4-3 double play and finish the frame. The Bells got a four-pitch walk from Intagliata, which then came to bite the Hawks’ lefty, as Bellingham sac bunted to move the runner over and then singled to put players on the corners. Making the Bells’ lead even larger, Noah Cassie hit another home run to plate three. In turn, the Riverhawks got retired in order in the 8th, their first inning since the 1st inning to not have a runner on base.

 came out in the bottom of the 8th and started with a relatively simple ground out to third, but Bellingham took off again with their third home run of the game. After the solo shot the Bells kept things going with a double, but a dive from #58 Omar Gonzalez stopped the next batted ball from reaching the outfield and causing further damage.

The 9th had a bit of life with Munoz legging out a 9th inning double off a hit into right-centre. The one-out knock was followed by a walk to pinch hitter 

 replaced Krull, before Fox would slap a ball into the shallow outfield and give the Riverhawks their first run of the game. A wild pitch followed as the runners were both able to advance into scoring position, a groundout from Heffler was enough to plate Virostek. Unfortunately the next at bat finished with a called strikeout, and the Hawks’ season was over.

Three Bellingham homers seal the Hawks’ fate

Edmonton’s 2026 Season Ends on a Loss to Bellingham

With playoff implications written all over the second last regular season game of 2026, theRiverhawks saw the script flipped on them from last night's late rally victory. In tonight's matchup, it was Bells strong rally in the 6th inning that was the deciding factor in this one. With the loss tonight, the Riverhawks lose their first game against the Bells in 2026, as all 4 matchups had gone in favour of the Riverhawks until tonight.

#36 Mitchell Middlemiss sparked the Riverhawks offense early, cranking a 353 foot 3 run bombin the 3rd to jump the Riverhawks out to a 3-0 advantage. #36 Mitchell Middlemiss would finish the night 2/4 with 3 RBI’s, upping his 2026 total to 26. After the Bells answered with a quick run of their own in the bottom of the 3rd, both teams would remain scoreless for the next 3. That would change in the 6th, as the Bells sparked a 3 run rally to take a 4-3 lead, which would carry out to be the final result.

After a quiet start for both ball clubs, #36 Mitchell Middlemiss would start the scoring in the 3rd inning with a BANG. The Riverhawks right fielder cranks his 4th home run of the summer, a 3run shot sailing 354 feet over the right field wall to jump the Riverhawks out to an early 3-0 lead.

With the bases loaded, the Bells would bounce back in the very next inning, as #8 Noah Cassie would hit a fielder's choice, getting the Bells on the board to make it 3-1.

The 6th would see the Bells flip the script on the Riverhawks, #8 Noah Cassie would hit an RBIsingle to bring #21 Bo Shinkle. Then, with the bases loaded, #1 Rominic Quiban would take a walk to tie the game at 3, then a wild pitch the very next at bat would give the Bells the lead at4-3.

Both teams would remain scoreless for the final 3 innings, setting up a huge final regular season game tomorrow, where the Riverhawks must win to have a chance at the 2026 post season.

Riverhawks Fall Against Bells, Face Must Win Scenario For Regular Season Finale

BELLINGHAM, WA—The Edmonton Riverhawks are doing everything they can to secure one of the two available spots left in the West Coast League North Division playoff hunt. The Riverhawks opened up their final regular season series in Bellingham by beating the Bells 5-4 on Monday night (Aug 3).

It’s the fourth straight victory for the Hawks over the Bells this season

walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning to secure Edmonton’s 28th victory of the season. The Riverhawks improved to 28-24.

The Bells saw their eight-game winning streak snapped in this one. The WCL North second seed falls to 34-18.

The Riverhawks scored a run in the third, added three in the fourth to go along with their winning run in the ninth. Edmonton had five runs on 10 hits and committed one error.

Bellingham tallied once in the fourth, two in the fifth along with one run in the sixth inning. The Bells had four runs on nine hits.

. Fox was three for five with two runs batted in. 

was two for four. Munoz was zero for two with two runs scored.

Bellingham’s #21 Bo Shindle was two for five. #19 Matt Churchill went one for four with a run scored and two runs batted in. The two runs came on a homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. #8 Noah Cassie, # 1 Rominic Quiban, #10 Dillon Moss and #13 Bryce Johnson were all one for four.

Edmonton utilized four pitchers in the contest

, the third one picked up his first win of the year. He went two innings, walking one and striking out one. 

came on in the ninth inning to collect his third save. He gave up a hit and struck out two.

#28 Jameson Connelly was the fourth Bells pitcher. His record evens at 1 and 1 taking the loss for giving up a run in four innings of work where he gave up two hits, walked two and struck out four.

When it comes to the playoff hunt in the WCL North. Other Monday (Aug 3) contests had Nanaimo coming back to beat Kelowna at home 8-7. Wenatchee beat Victoria 5-2. Kelowna beat Port Angeles 10-2.

Wenatchee (39-13) and Bellingham (34-18) have sewn up the top two playoff positions. Nanaimo (29-23) is currently sitting in third spot with the Riverhawks and Kelowna in fourth with records of 28-24.

In the second half standings only, Wenatchee is 20-5, Bellingham 15-10, Nanaimo is 14-11 with Edmonton sitting in the fourth position with a 14-12 record with two days left in the regular campaign.

The Bells and Riverhawks will play again both tomorrow (Tues Aug 4) and Wednesday (Aug 5) to close out the regular season. Opening pitch both nights is 7:35 PM MDT. You can watch the game on WCLTV:

Riverhawks Squeak Out Opening Game Victory Over Bells

KELOWNA, BC—You can’t say the 2026 version of the Edmonton Riverhawks don’t have a flare for the dramatics. Many times this West Coast League season, the Riverhawks have had to battle back from deficits or fight through the elements. When it comes to whether or not they will secure a WCL North Division post season berth, their fans will have to wait until the final three games of the season to find out.

The Riverhawks dropped the second of three games against the Falcons in Kelowna as they fell 10-8 at Elks Stadium on Sunday (Aug 2). The defeat dropped Edmonton’s record to 27-24. Kelowna improved to a 27-24 record as well. With two playoff berths up for grabs, the Riverhawks are 13-12 for the second half. Nanaimo—who beat Port Angeles 8-0 on Sunday have moved into the third playoff position. The NightOwls are 28-23 overall and 13-11 in the second half. Victoria HarbourCats were shut out 5-0 by Bellingham on Sunday. The Bells—who have won their last eight in a row and secured the second North Division berth on Friday, are 34-17 (15-9 in the second half). Victoria is 26-25 (12-12 in the second half).

Back to the Sunday tilt against The Falcons: things started off well for Edmonton. They scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Falcons scored a run in the third, added three in the fourth to go ahead 4-3.

The Hawks had a big fifth inning when they scored five runs on three hits powered by a 

. The inning saw Edmonton load the bases before a Middlemiss walk brought in #13 Jaxon Fox to tie the game at four.

Kelowna though, battled back with two runs in the bottom of that fifth inning, added one in the sixth and then capped things off with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. In that eighth, # 8 Finley Buckner hit a three run homer off Riverhawks reliever 

 to score the winning and insurance runs.

Buckner led the Falcons offensively going 2 for 4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored. #33 Jadin Moreno was 1 for 4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Moreno hit a two run dinger in the fourth.

Krull was 1 for 4 for the Riverhawks with two RBI and a run scored. Fox was 1 for 3 with two runs scored. Middlemiss went 1 for 3 with three RBI and a run scored. Heffler was 1 for 4 with two runs scored

 went 1 for 4 at the dish and had a run batted in.

#25 Cade Webber, the third of four Falcon pitchers was the winner. He is 2 and 0 on the year as he pitched three innings of one hit ball striking out five. # 34 Aiden Ennis collected his third save striking out one in an inning of work.

Starko saw his record fall to 1 and 1. He pitched two and two thirds innings surrendering four runs on five hits and striking out 1.

“It was great to get off to a good start,” said Riverhawks head coach Jake Lanferman about Sunday’s contest. “ Unfortunately, our bullpen kept falling behind. Kelowna has some good hitters who can do damage and that is exactly what they did.”

Looking ahead to the Bellingham series: the Bells hold a 17-13 advantage historically over Edmonton in head-to-head meetings. This year though, the Riverhawks have won all three games against Bellingham. Game one tomorrow (Mon Aug 3) has a 7:35 PM MDT start time. You can watch the game on WCT TV 

Coach Lanferman knows his club in tough against the Bells, who have qualified for the WCL post season for a sixth straight season. “It’s a tough matchup for sure, but all year we’ve been a team that does a good job at matching the competition on the other side.”

Riverhawks post season berth in limbo, drop 2nd straight to Falcons

A back and forth affair on a windy Saturday night in Kelowna saw the Riverhawks fall short to the Falcons 7-4. The Riverhawks controlled the majority of the game, having a lead in 6 of the 9 innings. The biggest swing of the night seemed to be a 393 foot, 2-run moonshot by #13 Jaxon Fox in the top of the 7th to put the Riverhawks up 4-2. However, the Falcons would rally in the bottom of the 8th, scoring 5 runs to take the lead, and claim the series tying victory.

#13 Jaxon Fox led the way for the Riverhawks offense tonight, finishing 2-5 with 3 RBI’s, highlighted by his mammoth two run blast.

The Riverhawks would waste no time to open up the scoring in this one. With the bases loaded, #36 Mitchell Middlemiss would smack a ground ball to Kelowna’s second baseman who couldn’t make the play. #32 Jason Green would walk in to give the Riverhawks an early 1-0 lead.

#13 Jaxon Fox would cash in another run in the 2nd as #4 Aden Munoz would come home off of an error by Kelowna’s shortstop to extend the lead to 2-0.

Kelowna would get on the board in the 3rd with an RBI single from #20 Reez Kozar, putting the Falcons right back in the ball game at 2-1.

After a series of scoreless innings, the Falcons would draw even as the Falcons DH #40 Josh Cunnigan would hit a sacrifice fly to center, deadlocking the game 2-2 going into the final three innings.

In the 7th, after #24 Cale Clark would open up the top of the inning with a double, #13 Jaxon Fox would crank a clutch 2 run bomb on a full count to regain another Riverhawks lead at 4-2.

The Falcons would have an answer and more in the 8th as they would add five runs highlighted by #33 Jadin Moreno bases loaded doubles, giving Kelowna their first lead of the night and making it 7-4.

That would do it, after the Riverhawks went 1,2,3 to end the game in the top of the 9th, falling 7-4 against the Falcons.

Fox’s Two Run Moonshot Not Enough as Falcons Rally Late To Take Down Riverhawks

was honored for his best pitching performance of the season by being named the West Coast League Pitcher of the Week. That was last week. Nance is making a strong case to keeping that honor.

Nance pitched seven innings of four hit ball helping his Edmonton Riverhawks take the opener of their WCL series in Kelowna. On Friday (July 31), the Hawks beat the host Falcons at Elks Stadium 8-1.

Edmonton is now 27-22 as they push to secure one of two WCL North Division playoff spots. The Falcons have fallen to 25-24. The Riverhawks scored eight runs on 10 hits and had one error. Kelowna had a run on five hits with two errors.

Back to Nance, who committed to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff last week. The 6’0” righthander from Lake Stevens, Washington struck out seven and walked one in seven innings of work. He is 4 and 1 on the season.

The Riverhawks scored two runs in the third, added four in the fourth with singles coming in the seventh and eighth innings. Kelowna got their lone run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Riverhawks reliever 

 gave up a one out homer to # 33 Jadin Moreno. Allensworth came in to pitch for that ninth inning, replacing 

. He was 2 for 4 at the dish with a run scored and two runs batted in

#6 Cade Burnham was 2 for 4 for the Falcons. Moreno went 1 for 2 with a run batted in. Kelowna starter # 48 Brady Renneberg (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He pitched a six hitter over three innings, giving up five runs while walking four and striking out one.
