Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky for the Edmonton Riverhawks. The Riverhawks dropped a 5-1 lead and fell to the hometown Kamloops NorthPaws 8-6 in the opener of their weekend West Coast League series at Dearborn Ford Field at Norbrock Stadium.

The NorthPaws scored twice in the bottom of the 8th inning en route to victory as they improved to 8-5 on the season. The Riverhawks, who outhit Kamloops 12-5 on the night fall to 6-4 on the year.


Edmonton scored three runs in the 1st inning. Leadoff hitter 

singled and scored on a wild pitch to open the scoring. 

 followed with a single of his own and crossed the plate on an RBI single from the red hot 

. Lenihan would score the Riverhawks third run on an RBI single off the bat of 

. Middlemiss was 3 for 4 with an RBI on the night. Lenihan was 1for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.

In the 3rd inning, the Riverhawks hit back-to-back homers. 

 got it started and was followed by the next batter 

. It was the second round trippers of the year for both Edmonton players.


The NorthPaws earned their first run in the bottom half of the 3rd making the score 5-1. Kamloops added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-3.

The Riverhawks regained a three-run lead in the top of the 7th. Yip hammered a two out triple and later plated on a wild pitch to make it 6-3. Yip was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

But things fell apart for Edmonton in the bottom of the 8th, Kamloops sent nine players to the dish in that inning. 

came on in relief to start the inning for the Riverhawks. After 

 was hit by a pitch and scored tying things at 6. Egan promptly gave up a RBI single to the next batter, pinch hitter 

 which gave Kamloops their first lead of the ball game.

NorthPaws Sneak Ahead of Riverhawks in Game 1

The Edmonton Riverhawks took a ‘big bite’ out of the ‘Little Apple” as they kicked off their first road trip of the 2025 West Coast League season.

The Riverhawks won two of three games in Kelowna, BC against the Falcons. Edmonton won rubber game of the series Thursday night (June 12) at Elks Stadium by a score of 7-0. The Riverhawks are now 6-3 on the year. Kelowna falls to 3-9 in the campaign.

After beating the Falcons 4-1 Tuesday (June 10), the Riverhawks fell 3-2 on Wednesday (June 11).

In this game, Edmonton opened the scoring in the 1st inning

 led off with a single and scored on an RBI base hit off the bat of 

 That run came off Falcons starter and losing pitcher Asher Clark.Clark went five innings giving up five hits, one run with three strike outs and two walks. He is 0-1 on the season.

In the 6th, the Riverhawks added four more runs. Two walks and a batter hit by a pitch loaded the bases. Falcons reliever 

which scored Lenihan for the game’s second run. That brought up 

 from third to make it 3-0. The two free runs sent Lund to the Kelowna showers, to be replaced by Roanan Cason

, scoring Ossanna, and bringing the score to 4-0.

Moving to the 8th, Edmonton added their final two runs. With two outs, Kodama reached first on an error by Falcons’ shortstop. Kelowna pitching again loaded the bases and Kodama scored when 

 was given a free bag. Finally, that brought up Lenihan who knocked an RBI single. Lenihan wound up 2 for 3 with two RBI on the night. Lenihan now has 12 RBI-that is the third most in the West Coast League.

Phelps was 2 for 4 with a run batted in. Kodama was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Ossanna went 1-3 with an RBI.

 started and went four innings to notch his first win of the year. He surrendered two hits and had two strikeouts. Hemmerling was the first of four Riverhawk pitchers.

Looking back at the first two games of this series, which the teams split, Edmonton coach Jake Lanferman stated, “In the first game, our pitchers did a great job to keep Kelowna in check. 

 threw extremely well for us followed by our bullpen. Lenihan had a huge opposite field triple to put us ahead. Yip with the late homer gave us extra insurance and we played very well defensively.”

On the series as a whole, Lanferman said, “In game two last night, I really liked our offensive push at the end of the game. We only had a couple of hits throughout seven innings but found a way to rally against a strong arm to get the tying run to third base in the ninth. It was unfortunate that we didn’t end up tying it up.”

The Riverhawks head into the Thompson Region to meet up with the Kamloops NorthPaws at Norbrock Stadium starting tomorrow. Opening pitch is 7:35 PM MDT. You can watch the game live at

Riverhawks Take A Road Series Win in Kelowna

 were in trouble in both the top and bottom halves of each inning tonight, as they went down 3-1 to the 

. The bats were slow to do much of anything, with only three hits and four walks until the 9th inning. Edmonton went through a litany of relief arms, seeing over 2/3 the amount of pitchers used in last week’s 18 inning game as most relievers didn’t see a full inning of work. Thanks to late game heroics, the Hawks avoid being shutout for the first time in the regular season since the final game of 2023.

Through the first half of the game the Hawks were quiet at the plate, 

’ 3rd inning single was their first hit of the game. A walk to Phelps followed by a 

 single in the 3rd gave the Riverhawks a chance in the 4th, especially with Phelps stealing third base, but they were shut down by an inning-ending strikeout.

The next big chance for Edmonton was in the top of the 7th, as 

 walked. A double play pushed Kodama to third, but a grounder to short stopped the rally before the Hawks could score.

A last chance at the plate turned out to be Edmonton’s best frame, as Kodama earned a one-out walk, then pinch hitter 

 crashed a double to put both runners in scoring position. Phelps would single for an RBI, then Middlemiss would plate the second run on a sacrifice. The Hawks came close as

 was able to leg out an infield single, and put himself and Phelps on the corners, but the game ended a Stagg flew out to right field after making great contact.

It was the second start of the season for Edmonton’s

, after going 4.0 innings in the win against Bellingham on June 6. The only major action that Kelowna managed off Jesse in the first 3 innings was a solo shot to lead off the 2nd. The Falcons took a second run off Kaphing in the 4th, as they hit a single and an RBI double to chase him from the game with 3.1 innings complete. Jesse would toss three strikeouts in his start, and allow 4 hits and a walk.

 took over in the 4th and completed the inning thanks to a couple of fly outs. Coming in for the 5th was 

, who gave up a leadoff double, then shut down the Falcons for a scoreless frame.

 tossed the 6th, getting a first pitch out, but then surrendering back-to-back singles that gave the Falcons another run. Kelowna also stole a trio of bases against Morrison, but were bailed out from #16 Kyle Yip’s toss to third catching the Falcons on their fourth attempt of the frame. A hit batter ended Morrison’s appearance at just 0.2 IP, and 

 would get the last out of the 6th via a K. 

 would toss the 7th, retiring the Falcons in order with a strikeout. Finishing the the Hawks defensive side, 

 would see a double and a single, but be saved by the outfield for a scoreless 8th.

The Riverhawks will wrap up this series with the Falcons tomorrow night, then head through interior BC to face the Kamloops NorthPaws on Friday. The Hawks will see the Bells again at RE/MAX Field on Tuesday, June 17 to kick off the next home stand.

Hawks Bested By Falcons, Evening Out Road Series

The Edmonton Riverhawks kicked off their first 2025 West Coast League road swing on the right note. Playing at Elks Stadium in Kelowna, the Riverhawks dumped the host Falcons 4-1 tonight. 

The Riverhawks improved their record to 5-2 in the WCL North Division. The Falcons fell to 2-8 as they honored their city’s firefighters.

Edmonton broke open a scoreless tie in the fourth inning, adding two more in the sixth and one more in the seventh. They rattled the Falcons pitching with 11 hits. Kelowna scored their lone run in the fifth and had five hits on the night.

 led off the fourth with a double and scored on a single off the bat of 

. Yzermans went 3-4 with a run batted in.

After the Falcons tied it with a run in the fifth inning, the Riverhawks took the lead for good with two runs on their own in the top of the sixth inning. With two out, 

 stroked a triple scoring both Yzermans and 

 Lenihan went 1-3 at the dish with two RBI. Stagg extended his hit streak to seven games with a single in the contest. He went 1-3. The Australian entered the game second in the West Coast League in batting average. He was .480 through six games with 25 at bats, 12 hits, one double and two runs batted in.

Edmonton made it 4-1 in the seventh when 

 led off the inning with a solo homer. Yip was 2-4 on the night with an RBI.

 went six innings for his second victory of the season for Edmonton. Brock had six strikeouts, gave up a run and four hits. He was one of four Riverhawks pitchers. 

 started and was tagged with the loss for Kelowna. He lasted four innings, gave up four hits, a run, had a strikeout and a walk. He is 0-2 on the year.

The series concludes Thursday night before the Riverhawks head up Highway 97 to Kamloops for a three-game set against the NorthPaws which begins Friday night.

Hawks > Falcons, as First Road Trip of 2025 Begins

It was one for the dogs today at RE/MAX Field, as hundreds of furry friends joined in the stands for a sunny Sunday ball game. The Edmonton Riverhawks finished their first series of the season against the Bellingham Bells,


The Riverhawks got their first solid shot in the 2nd, as 

 singled to load the bags with one out. A pair of pop ups spoiled the first rally of the game and kept the Hawks blanked until the 3rd. Another single and pair of walks to 

 gave Edmonton their first run of the game.

The Hawks had another offensive surge in the 8th, as a Fox lead off single followed by an RBI single from 

. A tag out on the bases limited the rally, and capped Edmonton at a total of 2 runs.


 only made it through 1.2 innings of play today, as he was foiled by an E6 elongated 2nd where four Bells runners made it home. Foden’s 1st was smooth with a fly out and a 4-6-3 double play, but after one run allowed and the error the Bells took over in the 2nd to chase Foden from the game. 

 took over in the 2nd, and quickly wrapped it up with a fly to right. Combs saw some more offence in the 3rd, as the Bells singled and stole their way to third. A pair of hard hit singles gave the Bells a pair of runs and retired Combs from the game.

 got the final out of the 3rd on a foul pop up, preventing any more Bells runners from crossing home. He came back for a 1-2-3 4th, and a one-run 5th off a sac fly. The Bells rallied again in the 6th, scoring off back-to-back-to-back singles followed by a sac fly. The run scored after 

came in as relief, but the run was credited to Devlin. MacDonald continued through 7th, then #

took over for a scoreless 8th. #8 Matthew Ridsdale tossed the 9th, only surrendering a walk to the Bells.


It was also Paws in the Park Day, presented by Homes Alive Pets. The bleachers were packed with dogs joining the 5366 people in attendance. From wiener dog races to a bobblehead salute to the Hawks’ own bat dog Iceman, it was a theme day to get your tail wagging.

The Riverhawks now head out on their first road trip of the season, headed through interior BC to face the Kelowna Falcons and Kamloops NorthPaws. The Hawks will see the Bells again at RE/MAX Field on Tuesday, June 17 to kick off the next home stand.

Riverhawks Finish Home Stand 4-2 After Losing Game 3 to Bells

The Edmonton Riverhawks have extended their unbeaten streak to four games to start the 2025 West Coast League season. The Riverhawks scratched out a 6-4 win over the visiting Bellingham Bells, starting a three-game set at RE/MAX Field. Bellingham falls to 4-3 on the young season.

The Bells started off strong with three straight singles and a run scoring in the top of the first

 singled and later scored on a single off the bat of

 The Emry-Riddle senior went four innings giving up six hits three runs and striking out two for his first victory in his first WCL start.

But the Riverhawks answered back in a big way in their half of the inning. 

 got aboard on an error charged to Bellingham third baseman. He was followed by

 who chopped the ball up the middle off Bells pitcher

The veteran Edmonton first baseman blasted a moon shot over the wall in left field for a three run round tripper. That made the score 3-1 Riverhawks.

Anderson was tagged with the loss. The lefty gave up five runs on seven hits in three innings of work.

 stroked a one out single to right center field. Two batters later,

 hit a hard shot down the left field line scoring Kodama to put Edmonton up 4-1.

The Riverhawks added another run in the third. Stagg led off the inning with a bloop single to straightaway center. When 

 hit a single to left field, Stagg beat the throw to the plate to give the home team a 5-1 advantage. 

The Bells chipped away at the deficit in the fourth inning by scoring a pair of their own. Azpilicueta singled and scored two batters later when

 who brought Kirkpatrick home on a single and it was 5-3 Riverhawks.

Bellingham made it a 5-4 contest in the top of the seventh. 

 hit a rope to left field which popped out of Riverhawks left fielder Yips glove. He scored on a long fly ball to center off the bat of Azpilcueta. He led Bellingham offensively going 3-3 with two RBI.

The Riverhawks had the chance to add to their lead in the bottom of seven. They loaded the bases off Bells reliever 

 who then threw to the plate to get Phelps who was trying to come home from third.

They did make it 6-4 in the eighth. Middlemiss began the inning with a deep fly to centerfield. He wound up with a double and later scored when

 hit a hot shot to Bellingham shortstop 

 whose throwing error put Yzermans first. 

 night at RE/MAX Field. The contest was broadcast in Punjabi for the second straight year on MyRadio 580. The Riverhawks are the only West Coast League team to accomplish that feat.

The series between the Bells and the Riverhawks continues Saturday (June 7). It is a 7:05 PM MDT start time with the Hawks running 

. The team pays homage to all the current and former residents of Saskatchewan and have a number of activities highlighting the benefits of being from that province.

The Riverhawks will unveil their alternate identity jersey as well on Saturday. The “Edmonton Green Onion Cakes” pay homage to one of the city’s most beloved and iconic foods. The jersey was designed by local artist Mike Lundy. Fans can pick up a Green Onion Cake Tee, they'll be available at the Hawk Shop at RE/MAX Field Saturday and Sunday.
