KELOWNA, BC—You can’t say the 2026 version of the Edmonton Riverhawks don’t have a flare for the dramatics. Many times this West Coast League season, the Riverhawks have had to battle back from deficits or fight through the elements. When it comes to whether or not they will secure a WCL North Division post season berth, their fans will have to wait until the final three games of the season to find out.

The Riverhawks dropped the second of three games against the Falcons in Kelowna as they fell 10-8 at Elks Stadium on Sunday (Aug 2). The defeat dropped Edmonton’s record to 27-24. Kelowna improved to a 27-24 record as well. With two playoff berths up for grabs, the Riverhawks are 13-12 for the second half. Nanaimo—who beat Port Angeles 8-0 on Sunday have moved into the third playoff position. The NightOwls are 28-23 overall and 13-11 in the second half. Victoria HarbourCats were shut out 5-0 by Bellingham on Sunday. The Bells—who have won their last eight in a row and secured the second North Division berth on Friday, are 34-17 (15-9 in the second half). Victoria is 26-25 (12-12 in the second half).

Back to the Sunday tilt against The Falcons: things started off well for Edmonton. They scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Falcons scored a run in the third, added three in the fourth to go ahead 4-3.

The Hawks had a big fifth inning when they scored five runs on three hits powered by a 

. The inning saw Edmonton load the bases before a Middlemiss walk brought in #13 Jaxon Fox to tie the game at four.

Kelowna though, battled back with two runs in the bottom of that fifth inning, added one in the sixth and then capped things off with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. In that eighth, # 8 Finley Buckner hit a three run homer off Riverhawks reliever 

 to score the winning and insurance runs.

Buckner led the Falcons offensively going 2 for 4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored. #33 Jadin Moreno was 1 for 4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Moreno hit a two run dinger in the fourth.

Krull was 1 for 4 for the Riverhawks with two RBI and a run scored. Fox was 1 for 3 with two runs scored. Middlemiss went 1 for 3 with three RBI and a run scored. Heffler was 1 for 4 with two runs scored

#25 Cade Webber, the third of four Falcon pitchers was the winner. He is 2 and 0 on the year as he pitched three innings of one hit ball striking out five. # 34 Aiden Ennis collected his third save striking out one in an inning of work.

Starko saw his record fall to 1 and 1. He pitched two and two thirds innings surrendering four runs on five hits and striking out 1.

“It was great to get off to a good start,” said Riverhawks head coach Jake Lanferman about Sunday’s contest. “ Unfortunately, our bullpen kept falling behind. Kelowna has some good hitters who can do damage and that is exactly what they did.”

Looking ahead to the Bellingham series: the Bells hold a 17-13 advantage historically over Edmonton in head-to-head meetings. This year though, the Riverhawks have won all three games against Bellingham. Game one tomorrow (Mon Aug 3) has a 7:35 PM MDT start time. You can watch the game on WCT TV 

Coach Lanferman knows his club in tough against the Bells, who have qualified for the WCL post season for a sixth straight season. “It’s a tough matchup for sure, but all year we’ve been a team that does a good job at matching the competition on the other side.”

Riverhawks post season berth in limbo, drop 2nd straight to Falcons

A back and forth affair on a windy Saturday night in Kelowna saw the Riverhawks fall short to the Falcons 7-4. The Riverhawks controlled the majority of the game, having a lead in 6 of the 9 innings. The biggest swing of the night seemed to be a 393 foot, 2-run moonshot by #13 Jaxon Fox in the top of the 7th to put the Riverhawks up 4-2. However, the Falcons would rally in the bottom of the 8th, scoring 5 runs to take the lead, and claim the series tying victory.

#13 Jaxon Fox led the way for the Riverhawks offense tonight, finishing 2-5 with 3 RBI’s, highlighted by his mammoth two run blast.

The Riverhawks would waste no time to open up the scoring in this one. With the bases loaded, #36 Mitchell Middlemiss would smack a ground ball to Kelowna’s second baseman who couldn’t make the play. #32 Jason Green would walk in to give the Riverhawks an early 1-0 lead.

#13 Jaxon Fox would cash in another run in the 2nd as #4 Aden Munoz would come home off of an error by Kelowna’s shortstop to extend the lead to 2-0.

Kelowna would get on the board in the 3rd with an RBI single from #20 Reez Kozar, putting the Falcons right back in the ball game at 2-1.

After a series of scoreless innings, the Falcons would draw even as the Falcons DH #40 Josh Cunnigan would hit a sacrifice fly to center, deadlocking the game 2-2 going into the final three innings.

In the 7th, after #24 Cale Clark would open up the top of the inning with a double, #13 Jaxon Fox would crank a clutch 2 run bomb on a full count to regain another Riverhawks lead at 4-2.

The Falcons would have an answer and more in the 8th as they would add five runs highlighted by #33 Jadin Moreno bases loaded doubles, giving Kelowna their first lead of the night and making it 7-4.

That would do it, after the Riverhawks went 1,2,3 to end the game in the top of the 9th, falling 7-4 against the Falcons.

Fox’s Two Run Moonshot Not Enough as Falcons Rally Late To Take Down Riverhawks

was honored for his best pitching performance of the season by being named the West Coast League Pitcher of the Week. That was last week. Nance is making a strong case to keeping that honor.

Nance pitched seven innings of four hit ball helping his Edmonton Riverhawks take the opener of their WCL series in Kelowna. On Friday (July 31), the Hawks beat the host Falcons at Elks Stadium 8-1.

Edmonton is now 27-22 as they push to secure one of two WCL North Division playoff spots. The Falcons have fallen to 25-24. The Riverhawks scored eight runs on 10 hits and had one error. Kelowna had a run on five hits with two errors.

Back to Nance, who committed to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff last week. The 6’0” righthander from Lake Stevens, Washington struck out seven and walked one in seven innings of work. He is 4 and 1 on the season.

The Riverhawks scored two runs in the third, added four in the fourth with singles coming in the seventh and eighth innings. Kelowna got their lone run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Riverhawks reliever 

 gave up a one out homer to # 33 Jadin Moreno. Allensworth came in to pitch for that ninth inning, replacing 

. He was 2 for 4 at the dish with a run scored and two runs batted in

#6 Cade Burnham was 2 for 4 for the Falcons. Moreno went 1 for 2 with a run batted in. Kelowna starter # 48 Brady Renneberg (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He pitched a six hitter over three innings, giving up five runs while walking four and striking out one.

The Hawks will close the 2026 West Coast League regular season with three key games in Bellingham against the Bells. Bellingham is one of three other teams battling with Edmonton for two available playoff spots in the WCT North Division. The others are the Victoria HarbourCats and the Nanaimo NightOwls. Bellingham beat Victoria 7-2 on Friday while Nanaimo dropped an 8-2 decision to Port Angeles. North Division leading Wenatchee was a 6-5 victor over the NorthPaws in Kamloops on Friday.

Nance Throws Another Gem As Hawks Take First In Kelowna

After last night’s win over the Kamloops NorthPaws, the Edmonton Riverhawks wanted to keep the momentum up and take the series. The NorthPaws disrupted that flow nearly immediately, as they took a lead in the first and proceeded to add on while shutting out the Riverhawks. The Hawks seemed unable to figure out Kamloops starter Evan Dugdale, who only gave up four hits to Edmonton batters in the first ever NorthPaws complete game shutout. Dugdale also hit at the NorthPaws’ DH and had three hits and 2 RBI in the game. Kamloops was similarly baffled by a a sterling relief appearance by Owen Combs, who tossed 3.1 frames in the middle of the game to hold the Paws at bay.

 hit the paths with speed as he beat out a throw to first for a single, then stole second a few pitches later with a swim move on the slide. While the Hawks got in the hit column early, Clark would end up being the only Riverhawk on base in the 1st.

 then begun his time on the mound, his sixth start of the season, and his second appearance against the NorthPaws after pitching 6.0 innings in last Tuesday’s walk off win. Huebner faced adversity right from the start, as Kamloops batters were able to locate his pitches well enough for three straight singles, followed by a walk to load the bags. While he finally got an out via a sac fly, and the next two followed quickly with another pair of fly balls, Kamloops got the early lead with a pair of runs. Huebner’s 2nd went much smoother, as his struck out a pair, and allowed just one hit. A walk and a double put Huebner right back in the NorthPaws’ targets in the 3rd, as the pair in scoring position came with no outs. After an infield ground ball, the Hawks outfield lost a deep fly in the cloud cover and allowed a run on a single. The NorthPaws pulled off a double steal to take a fourth run as the leading runner dashed on a poorly received pickoff to second. The Hawks switched arms to 

, and he was able to escape the inning with no more runs allowed.

Combs returned for the bottom of the 4th and retired the core of the NorthPaws in order, and did the same in the 5th. It wasn’t until the 6th inning that Kamloops started to figure out Combs, with a hit batter being followed by a pair of singles to load the bags with two outs. Thankfully a pop up to 

diffused the tension and stranded a trio of NorthPaws.

In the top of the 7th the Hawks’ offence had their first sign of life as 

 singled with two outs. But it was short lived as a fly out would strand him on first base five pitches later.

 pitched the bottom of the 7th with a quick 1-2-3 inning of work, and 

 got the assignment for the 8th. Sakamoto had a much more eventful inning, giving up two singles to start the frame, then plunking the bases loaded. A fielder’s choice scored one, a single another, and another fielder’s choice made it a 7-0 ballgame as the Hawks couldn’t turn a much needed double play. After a walk pushed another runner into scoring position, 

 took over to try and close out the inning. After a walk loaded the bases again, Luke was able to strand three NorthPaws for the third time this game.

Fighting with just three outs to work with in the 9th, pinch hitter 

 led off the frame with a 9 pitch walk. With one out, Cale Clark hit his third hit of the game to push Gonzalez into scoring position. A fly and a grounder ended the Hawks’ chances and left them to drop the series to Kamloops.

With this loss the Riverhawks will need to give their all to this weekend’s series with the Kelowna Falcons. The series starts tomorrow night as the Hawks will try to sweep the Kelowna squad for the second weekend in a row and improve their possible postseason position. The Hawks season finished with a Monday-Wednesday series in Bellingham before the WCL Playoffs begin August 6.

Hawks Shutout as Kamloops Takes Series Win

The Edmonton Riverhawks looked to bounce back from last night’s loss as they faced off against the Kamloops NorthPaws again. While the Edmonton team took an early lead in the 2nd, the NorthPaws turned it around in the bottom half of the inning then continued the onslaught in the 3rd and 5th. Facing a 6-1 deficit, the Hawks fought back in the 7th and 8th to plate the leading run and turn it over to reliever Bryce Intagliata to finish off a phenomenal 4.2 innings of work. With just a hit allowed to his first batter, Bryce retired every other NorthPaw he faced in order, not allowing any base runners from the 5th inning onwards.

 hit the mound in the bottom half and after fielding a foul pop up himself, he surrendered the first hit of the game up the middle. Thankfully, a quick infield tapper secured the frame and stranded Kamloops’ runner.

The Riverhawks earned a bit of luck in the 2nd as they were the first to break onto the scoreboard. With two outs #36 Mitchell Middlemiss was plunked, then a pitch later

 smacked a double that would push Middlemiss to third base. 

caused the run to score off an error, as he made contact in what should have been an inning-ending ground ball, but it tied up the Paws’ 3B and allowed Simonton to reach and sent Middlemiss home.

Things were progressing safely enough for MacIntosh’s second inning, but with two outs, the Paws pulled off back to back singles to put a threat on the base paths. Up against a deep drive to the wall Middlemiss reached back, and while the ball stayed in the park he couldn’t come up with it on the catch. Both runners scored on the triple to give Kamloops a lead in response to the Hawks. Macintosh then struck out his next batter swinging to stop any more resurgence from Kamloops.

More trouble followed in the 3rd, as an E6 allowed an initial runner then another E6 on a single sent runners to the corners. Another single served for an RBI, then a fielder’s choice RBI followed while the batter advanced to second on the third error of the frame, this time an E4. Another single pushed the NorthPaws up 5-1 before a grounder to first retired the side.

While the next few innings were quiet for both teams, in the bottom of the 5th, MacIntosh ran into a one-out jam with a walk and a single given up. Coach Lanferman made the call to swap arms for 

. With another single loading the bases, a sacrifice fly allowed Kamloops to add another run onto their total before Intagliata got out of the inning.

In the top of the 7th, the Hawks finally had another offensive chance as Simonton led off the inning with a double off the wall, then a single from 

put him on third. Munoz would then nab second base before 

walked to load the bags. After a fly out and a strikeout, both Simonton and Munoz would score on back-to-back wild pitches. The next pitch would plunk

, the third errant toss in a row to put Hawks on the corners. A strikeout with the tying run at the plate would spoil the chance, but the Riverhawks headed to the stretch having cut down the NorthPaws’ lead to 6-3.

In the 8th the Hawks would make another attempt as 

 led off with a full count walk, followed by another free base to Heffler. A Simonton ground out was enough to move both runners into scoring position before a walk to Munoz loaded the bases. The Kamloops reliever seemed rattled as he continued to miss the zone, walking Clark on four straight pitches, making it 11 balls thrown in a row. A 

 sacrifice Fly brought the Hawks within a run, before a 

 single tied the game 6-6. Green whiffed on a single pitch in the dirt before re-centering and hitting an infield ball that he beat out the throw to first, gifting the lead to Edmonton for the first time since the 2nd. As the Hawks ran through the lineup in the 8th, a deep fly out would stop the rally with Edmonton up just a run.

Intagliata returned for the bottom of the 8th, and kept his sterling relief appearance going as he made it ten NorthPaws in a row retired. While the batters couldn’t make any insurance happen in the 9th, Intagliata came back out and shut down the Paws in eleven pitches to secure the win and even the series.

This win helps hold the Riverhawks in the second seed playoff spot for the WCL North Division, still half a game above the Bells, HarbourCats, and NightOwls. The Riverhawks wrap up this series tomorrow night, then head to face the same Kelowna Falcons that got swept at RE/MAX Field last weekend. The Hawks’ season concludes next week with a series in Bellingham Aug 3-5.

Riverhawks surge late to battle past Kamloops and take a 7-6 win

Hawks Even Series in Comeback, Hold Playoff Potential

KAMLOOPS, BC—The Edmonton Riverhawks have hit a bump on their road to securing a 2026 West Coast League playoff spot. The Riverhawks opened up their final road trip of the regular season by falling to the host Kamloops NorthPaws on Tuesday night (July 28th). The Hawks saw a 1-0 third inning lead slip away and fell 9-1 to the Paws at Dearborn Ford Field at Norbrock Staduim.

Edmonton’s three game winning streak was snapped on this night as they scored one run on five hits while committing two errors. Their record overall falls to 25-21 (11-9 in the second half). The North Paws, who have been eliminated from playoff contention, move to 19-26 (9-10 in the second half).

The North Paws-who have won three of four meetings vs Edmonton this season scored four times in the third, twice in the fourth and added singles in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. They had nine runs on six hits and had three errors.

The lone Edmonton run came in that third inning. 

 reached base on an error charged to the Kamloops shortstop. He scored when 

 singled. Gonzalez was 1 for 3 at the plate for the NorthPaws. #19 Luke Krull was 1 for 1 while #23 Justin Heffler was 1 for 4.

Kamloops was led offensively by #22 Tate Martin whose third inning double with the bases loaded brought in three runs. He was 1 for 4 with those three RBI. #7 Elijah Olaybal was 1 for 3 with an RBI. #4 Kade Crawford and #5 Jared Hall were both 0 for 2 with two runs scored. Hall contributed an RBI.

#18 Chris Demmler-the second of three Kamloops pitchers was the winner to move to 1 and 0 on the season. The Missoula, MT right hander went five innings, pitching two hits, walking two, giving up and run and striking out three.

 started for the Riverhawks. He fell to 1 and 1 on the season. Becker, a lefty from San Diego, California stuck around for three innings. He gave up four runs on one hit, striking out three and striking out two.

. The Sherwood Park, AB product (via Vauxhaull Academy) pitched an inning of one hit ball. The University of Mary Maurauder (NCAA Div II) pitcher made his West Coast League debut.

The NorthPaws and Riverhawks will play game two of their three game set Wednesday (July 29) at Dearborn Field at Norbrock Stadium. Opening pitch will be 7:35 PM MDT.

The loss puts the Hawks three and a half games back of the front running Wenatchee AppleSox in the WCL North Division second half pennant race. Wenatchee was a 10-2 victor in Kelowna on Tuesday (July 28).
