It was the first trip to RE/MAX Field for the Marion Berries, as they rolled in to start a weekend series with the Edmonton Riverhawks. Despite a two hour delay caused by a sudden storm and a swampy field, the Hawks played on and took the W on an extended Friday night game.

Winning 9-2, the Hawks came alive after the rain delay scoring three runs as soon as play resumed. The Berries were unable to respond until the 8th, but by then the Riverhawks had ran the score up enough that it wasn’t an issue. Riverhawks pitching kept up with the batters as they combined for 14 strikeouts and

It was the fifth start of the season for 

, and he began the game with an easy 1st. Just a rolling hit allowed amongst a litany of fly outs. His 2nd was even better as a pair of strikeouts started an easy 1-2-3 frame. Coxen had barely gotten off the mound before a huge dark cloud covered the field and the rain started pouring down. After a deluge of rain and nearly two hours of effort from the grounds crew to clear the field, the Hawks were able to get back in action.

, the second batter up smacked a ground rule double to the wet warning track to get things going. A bloop hit behind first base from 

was enough to send Andrews home and give the Hawks their first run. 

 followed up with a double up the middle to get another run. The two-out rally continued as 

 dropped the frame’s second GRD and its third RBI.

After the lengthy delay, Coxen’s arm was no longer warm, so the call was made for #21 Myles Chamberlain to take over for the 3rd. Chamberlain’s first frame of work carried the momentum from Coxen’s start with a trio of strikeouts, though a dropped third strike and a bunt single gave a little danger.The 4th went similarly well for Chamberlain with a strikeout in his three-up-three-down inning.

, who started off with a swinging K, tossed another whiff, then came back from a 3-0 count to induce an easy fly ball to left. In the bottom of the 5th the Hawks headed to the box with the top of order due, Sato drilled a single up the third-base line, then moved a base up on a wild pitch. After 

 hit into a fielder’s choice that put runners on the corners. Another fielder’s choice to #3 Jason Green was enough to score Sato, Andrews knocked another big hit to score Parkin, then 

 drove a ground rule double to the track in dead centre to make it 6-0 for Edmonton and cause the Berries to make a pitching change that finished the 5th.

Combs pitched another 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts in the 6th, working quickly to retire the side without issue. Combs gave up his first hit in the 7th, but thanks to a spectacular catch from Green in foul territory, the Berries were reigned in.

Green followed up his inning-ending catch with a leadoff single in the bottom of the 7th.

was plunked, but then erased from the bases on a double play. A close rundown to first let Middlemiss get an RBI hit to send Green home, then Fox followed with his second RBI single of the game.

#60 Heath Hachkowski got the assignment for the 8th and ran into early trouble, giving up a pair of singles to put Berries on the corners with no outs. A single to right gave Marion their first run of the game. A sacrifice fly gave Marion another, and after giving up another hit to the Berries, Hachkowski was taken out of the game with just 0.1IP. 

 took over with runners on first and second. Colville took command and struck out a pair to end the top of the 8th with no further damage.

In their last trip to the box the Hawks stayed hot with hits from Stagg and Green that brought in one last run.

#46 Donovan Wallace got the final inning on the bump and immediately mashed the Berries with Ks as he struck out the side to secure the victory.

Riverhawks Weather Rain Delay to Win First Meeting With Berries

EDMONTON, AB—In what could be described as a “statement’ game, the Edmonton Riverhawks downed the Nanaimo NightOwls 6-4 in West Coast League action at RE/MAX Field on Thursday.

A crowd of 5,258 saw two teams battling in a group in the WCL North Division for the second half pennant. The victory was the second for Edmonton in three starts against Nanaimo as they improved to 17-15 on the season. The NightOwls drop to 19-17.

The Hawks scored six runs on nine hits. Nanaimo had four runs on nine hits with one error.

“We knew we had to win this series,” said designated hitter #

(Georgetown, ON). “They are ahead of us and a team we need to beat. I thought we came out hard. Their starter was really good but we stayed with our approach. We threw a lot of strikes. Overall, it was a great game for us.” Green was 2 for 4 with two runs batted in and a run scored.

The Riverhawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as leadoff man 

singled to left center field. He would later score after Green hit a gapper to left center. He would get to third on a fielder’s choice and then plate when 

 hit a hot shot to NightOwls shortstop #2 Ryder Florence. Edmonton was up 2-0.

Cavnar was 1 for 2 on the night for the Hawks with two runs batted in.

Nanaimo cut the deficit to a single run in the top of the fourth inning. With two out, #17 Malachi Noet launched a rocket over the left field wall to make it 2-1 on his first homer of the 2026 campaign. Noet was 1 for 4 with a run scored and one run batted in.

It didn’t take the Hawks long to restore their two-run advantage. In the bottom of that inning, leadoff hitter 

ewart sent it to right center field. The ball squirted underneath Nanaimo right fielder # 23 Ethan Reynolds . Stewart wound up with a triple and consequently scored when Cavnar hit it to the NightOwls Florence who was charged with an error. 3-1 home side.

They upped lead in the bottom of the fifth. 

 singled to center field. With two out, Green stepped into the batter’s box and delivered a shot which hit the wall in right field which scored Wakui. Green wound up with a double to give Edmonton a 4-1 advantage.

 wound up walking to bring in Simonton and increase the lead to 5-1. That did it for Barrows who was pulled in favor of # 41 Isaac Nieters. Nieters promptly got Wakui to fly out to right field which scored Krull. Edmonton 6 Nanaimo 1.

The NightOwls started the seventh inning out strong as they hit three consecutive singles off Riverhawks reliever 

. They could only push one more run across as Florence scored when # 7 Aiden Nykoluk grounded into a double play. That cut the Riverhawks lead to 6-2.

Nanaimo didn’t fade away. In the ninth inning, they loaded the bases off Edmonton reliever 

. #3 Clark Springs singled to center field to bring in both Nykoluk and # 13 Francis Subero.

“I thought our pitchers were very resilient,’ assessed Riverhawks head coach Jake Lanferman. “ A lot of baserunners. They worked well getting ‘zeroes’ and minimizing when the damage was happening. Belcher had the bases loaded with none out. We got a ground ball and a double play and suddenly a double in the gap. It is a pressure situation but we got out of it with just one run scored. We got to go back and hit offensively.”

 started and was the winning pitcher for Edmonton. He pitched five innings, striking out seven while giving up five hits, one run and walking two. DeVos is 1 and 3 for the season.

#54 Damian Pasillas (2-2) was tagged with the loss for Nanaimo. He went four innings, giving up three runs, five hits, walking one and striking out four.

The Riverhawks have won seven of their last 10 starts. Green says the team has a lot to prove after struggling results wise in the first half of the PCL season.

“I don’t thing there was pressure. There is a need for this organization. They want to win. They expect the best from us. We know we have been playing good baseball and we know it will come.”

“We have won four of our last five series, “stated Lanferman. “ This is the direction we have to go in. We have to win series and to chip around the start that we had. The majority of the group we will have at the end (of the season) are here. It is exciting to see everyone establish their roles. Hopefully we can get on a bit of a ‘heater’ in the back half.”

Lanferman says it’s a huge relief to have most of his players in the dugout for the rest of the season. He adds a lot of other WCL North squads will be losing a lot of players now. “We are set up well to compete and make a little push.”

Green figures the upcoming WCL All-star break won’t hurt the Riverhawks momentum. “ It will be good for us to give us more rest. We aren’t losing guys anymore. Our pitchers will be healthy.”

Edmonton will host the Marion Berries beginning tomorrow night Friday (July 10). It is the first ever meeting between the two West Coast League franchises.

“We need to come out sharp and ready to play,” says Green. “We can’t sit back and dwell on the fact they aren’t in our division. Every game is important if we want to make playoffs. We need to come out hard.”

“You just have to expect that they will bring their best baseball,’ assesses Lanferman about the Berries. “They are coming off a day of rest. Probably we will see their three best starters. It is going to be competitive.

The Riverhawks will throw # 30 Sam Coxen (Granite Bay, CA) in game one Friday. “It is always a treat when he starts,” the Edmonton skipper says about his starter. “It will be likely one of his last starts here. We can’t underestimate Marion. They are below us in the standings. In fact, we can’t take anyone for granted. We have 14 games in the next 17 who have worse records (Port Angeles, Kamloops and Marion). We need to do our job and keep winning series.”

Coxen has started four games, has a 2 and 2 record with a 2.84 earned run average in 19 innings pitched. He has 19 strikeouts.

Riverhawks take a 6-4 victory to claim series

Hawks Take It Home Against Nanaimo

The Edmonton Riverhawks saw their record dip back to .500. The Riverhawks opened up a three same West Coast League series at home falling to the visiting Nanaimno NightOwls 12-4 on Tuesday.

The Hawks are now 15-15 while Nanaimo improves to 19-15. The NightOwls scored 12 times on 14 hits and had two errors. Edmonton had four runs on seven hits and had one error.

This day was the first ever: “Corporate Hookey: Office Olympics Edition!” where 4,620 people ‘called in sick’ when the thermometer at RE/MAX Field topped 26 degrees.

The NightOwls weren’t intimidated by the big crowd. They opening the scoring in the top of the first inning. #5 Beau Musser singled to centerfield off Riverhawks 

 and scored on a double by #23 Ethan Reynolds. Reynolds, who led the West Coast League in batting average going into this contest (.326) hit it to the wall in left field.

The Riverhawks were quick to tie it up when they came up in the first. #1 

hammered the ball to the wall in right field for a double off Nanaimo starter Frankie Flores Jr. He scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of 

 got aboard on an error and scored after stealing third and coming home on a throwing error charged to NightOwls catcher # 17 Malachi Noet. Edmonton 2 Nanaimo 1.

The top of the third inning saw the NightOwls come out with four straight singles to load the bases. They capitalized on that. Noet and Musser come across on a Reynolds single. Two batters later, #13 Francis Subero hits a two run single bringing #7 Aiden Nykoluk and Reynolds across to give Nanaimo a 5-2 lead.

In their half of the 3rd, Sato led off with a single to centerfield. He made it a 5-3 contest when he scored on a fielder’s choice.

Nanaimo upped their lead to four in the top of the fourth: #6 Kyler Shojinaga doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a Musser ground out. Noel makes it a 7-3 contest on an RBI single from Nykoluk.

The Riverhawks loaded the bases in the bottom of seventh inning off NightOwls reliever #14 Caleb Morrison. Morrison would promptly hit 

 from third. Edmonton was down 7-4 which prompted Nanaimo to lift Morrison in favor of #29 Luke Morris.

It was the NightOwls' turn to load the bases in the top of the eighth of Edmonton reliever 

. With one out, Musser hit the ball to right field which scooted under the outstreached glove of Riverhawks right fielder Middlemiss. That cleared the bases and gave Nanaimo a six run advantage (10-4).

 who promptly served up an RBI single to Nykoluk scoring Musser. Nykoluk plated when the next batter, Reynolds placed it nicely along the left field line wall. The NightOwls sent 11 men to the plate in that eighth inning, scoring five runs.

Flores Jr (1-1) was the winning pitcher. He threw five innings of five hit ball, giving up three runs, striking out three and walking two. Sheppard suffered his first loss of the season (4-1). He gave up nine hits through four innings with seven runs, walking one and striking out six.

Reynolds and Musser paced the NightOwls offensively. Both had four runs batted in. Reynolds was 3 for 5 with three doubles. Musser went 4 for 6 scoring three times as well.

Middlemiss was 1 for 3, Stagg went 1 for 4: both with a run scored. Andrews went 0 for 2 with two runs batted in.

The teams continue their series tomorrow with a 7:05 PM MDT opening pitch at RE/MAX Field. It is “Turning Singles Into Doubles: Date Night!

There will be four Riverhawks going: #51 Easton Andrews (first base/DH), #1 Shiryu Sato (shortstop), #38 David Sheppard (pitcher) and #19 Carter Fink (pitcher). The WCL All-Star game is set for Wednesday, July 15th at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park. A home run derby will be held on Tuesday, July 14th.

After combining for just 3 runs in the first two games in their series against the AppleSox, the Riverhawks lineup came to life in the series finale, posting 12 runs along with 14 hits. This is the 8th time in 2026 where the Riverhawks have posted 10+ runs in a win. Heading into an important homestand against Nanaimo and then Marion, your Riverhawks will look to build off a high flying offensive showing.

The story of the night was Riverhawks catcher 

 who put up a career performance tonight at the plate. Not only did he secure his very first WCL RBI, he secured 4 of them, including a huge 411 foot, 3 run bomb increasing the Riverhawks lead to 6 in the 3rd inning. 

 finished the game 4/6, tallying 4 RBI’s, and 2 runs. 

 also smacked one over the fence tonight, earning his first ever WCL homer, while 

 posted a solid offensive outing acting as DH, going 3/5 while drawing in 2 runs.

Head Coach Jake Lanferman was pleased with the club's performance on both sides of the ball.

"We played solid defence tonight and didn't commit any errors for the first time in this series. I thought the homers by Parkin and Montanario were key for us. This was also a big bounceback game for Green (Jason). ”

The entire Riverhawks pitching staff tonight put on a clinic, highlighted by starter 

. The Riverhawks right hander threw 6 scoreless innings, only giving up 3 hits while tallying 4 Ks.

The offense continued to roll in the 6th, after 

 opened up the inning with a crafty bunt for a single. After advancing to third, 

 would score after a wild pitch, dashing home to beat out the tag by the AppleSox catcher, increasing the lead to 7-0. 

 would add an RBI to his night, hitting a perfectly placed single up the middle, giving the Riverhawks a 8-0 lead.

In the top of the 7th, in his second game since returning from injury, 

 would add two more runs to the Riverhawks lead, cranking a 1 out, 2 RBI single to put the Riverhawks up 10-0. The AppleSox would break the shutout late in the 8th, with 1 out,

Riverhawks Bats Explode in 12-2 Win Over Wenatchee

The Edmonton Riverhawks looked to get back into the win column tonight, after dropping yesterday’s game to the Wenatchee AppleSox. Unfortunately the momentum stayed on Wenatchee’s side as other than a second inning rally resulting in a run for the Riverhawks, the Edmonton offence was no where to be seen tonight. The Riverhawks’ record moves to 14-13, staying afloat above the .500 mark thanks to the winning streak they were on prior to this series.

The AppleSox earned an early lead off of Edmonton starter 

, as he walked his second batter who then stole second and third before being driven home on a fielder’s choice. The Sox stole one more bag against MacIntosh before he cleared the inning, and despite the run given up, there were no hits on Wenatchee’s side.

Edmonton fought right back in the 2nd, with 

 going back-to-back-to-back with two-out singles to score the initial tying run.

MacIntosh ran into trouble again in the 3rd, as Wenatchee’s Ky McGary stole his fifth base of the series against him, McGary’s third of the game. An RBI single would put Wenatchee back on top, and they would continue to threaten as a defensive error put a runner in scoring position, followed by a hit batter. A swinging strikeout got the Hawks out of the 3rd with just the one run given up.

MacIntosh would see his game finish after that 3rd inning with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 2 earned runs. 

would take over in the 4th, and gave up hits to his first two batters. A wild pitch advanced the runners, then a sac fly gifted Wenatchee their third run of the game. An RBI single following the sacrifice was enough to push across another run before Combs could clear the frame with a K. Things got even tougher in the bottom of the 5th as a walk and four singles led to a one-out AppleSox rally against Combs. As Wenatchee was able to keep cycling from their base hits, they ran the score up to 6-1 while keeping the bases loaded until Combs was removed from the game after 1.1 frames with 7 hits and 5 earned runs allowed. 

was inserted into the inning with the bags loaded, and after a sac fly which tagged on one more run, he was able to dissolve the jam and get the game into the 6th. Colville’s 7th was much smoother, putting the Sox down in order for the first time in the game.

A walk to Parkin in the 4th, and a walk to 

 in the 5th were the only action for Edmonton since they were able to score in the 2nd. That includes a 6th inning where all three Hawks at the plate struck out. Finally, in the 7th the Riverhawks were able to have a rally, as both Simonton and Vanslyke singled. After a disagreement between members of the Hawks and the umpiring team over a called strikeout to 

, Stagg would be ejected from the game while in the on-deck circle. Stagg’s replacement 

would strike out to strand the pair of early singles and cut off the scoring chance.

A pair of singles and a double steal gave Wenatchee their eighth run in the bottom of the 7th, as Colville couldn’t work any pickoffs to nab the runners. A fielder’s choice then gave the opportunity for another Sox run to come home before Colville ended the inning. The bottom of the 8th belonged to #60 Heath Hachkowski. After what should have been a routine fly ball landed in the outfield due to the Hawks’ outfield fighting the lights, a walk followed. Thankfully Hachkowski worked a strikeout and a liner before the AppleSox singled and scored one last time. With their backs against the wall, the Hawks had a nine run deficit to overcome, but a pair of strikeouts and a bang-bang ground out would end things for Edmonton.

The weekend series finishes up tomorrow afternoon where the Riverhawks will aim to avoid getting swept. Then the Edmonton team returns home to RE/MAX Field for a six game home stand against the Nanaimo NightOwls and the South Division’s Marrion Berries. AppleSox Best Hawks Again In Penultimate Matchup

WENATCHEE, WA—The Edmonton Riverhawks have seen their West Coast League winning streak snapped at seven. The Riverhawks opened up a weekend series against the AppleSox in Wenatchee by dropping a 14-2 decision to the WCL North Division first half winners. 

The AppleSox improves to 20-8 on the year while the Riverhawks fall to 14-13. 

This contest was the seventh of 2026 between these two squads. The AppleSox now holds a 5-2 lead in the series.

Wenatchee scored 14 runs on 11 hits while committing one error. They scored three times in the first, added two more in the second and third innings, one in the fourth and added six runs in the fifth inning. The Riverhawks scored a run in the fourth and another one in the ninth.

 started and was the losing pitcher for Edmonton. Huebner (0-1) went two and a third innings, surrendering seven runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out two. Huebner was the first of five Hawks pitchers.

Easton Brooks, the second of four AppleSox pitchers picked up his first win of the season. Brooks tossed a four hitter. He gave up one run and had four strikeouts.

Offensively, Wenatchee second baseman Raphael Dunne was 2 for 5 with five runs batted in and scored three times. Dunne hit a grand slam in the six run fifth. Landon White was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

The two teams will go at it again Saturday (July 4). Opening pitch at Paul Thomas Senior Stadium will be 6:35 PM PST (7:35 PM MST) as the U.S.A. celebrates its 250th birthday.
