The final game of the Riverhawks road trip started pretty quiet, with both teams only producing 1 hit each for the first 3 innings. After the Riverhawks added a run in the 4th, the offense came to life in the 5th. Similar to yesterday's 9 run 5th inning, your Riverhawks used another massive middle frame to put the game out of reach, cruising to an 8-0 victory, and claiming their second series win of the season in Corvallis. #58 Omar Gonzalez led the charge tonight going 2/4 with 3 RBI’s, 2 of them coming in the 5th inning alone off a sharp single to left. #2 Drew Veatch also labeled his 1st home run in his WCL career, crushing a ball to left field to seal off the 8-0 lead.

The pitching staff also put on a clinic against the Knights. Riverhawks starter #30 Sam Coxen delivered his best performance of the season, pitching 6 innings of scoreless baseball while only allowing 2 hits and tossing 5 strikeouts. The starter's performance tonight also earned his first win of the season.

It was a quiet first three innings, with both teams mustering up one hit a piece. Your Riverhawks would break the scoreless drought with a 2 out single from the first baseman, #58 Omar Gonzalez. With that RBI, #58 Omar Gonzalez secures his 3rd RBI of the series and his 7th of the 2026 campaign.

Your Riverhawks would light the score board up, tallying a monster 6 run inning to put the game out of reach. #2 Drew Veatch would kick it off, cranking a single into center, before stealing both second and third base. After #1 Shiryu Sato walked, #31 Kotaro Wakui picked up an RBI, scoring #2 Drew Veatch on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0.

The Riverhawks wouldn’t stop there, as #57 Finnegan Stewart cranked a 1 out double, putting himself and #31 Kotaro Wakui in scoring position. The aussie #48 Max Stagg would catch a break, as Corvallis pitcher #44 Bryce Hill fielded a ground ball, but airmailed his throw over the Corvallis short stop and second baseman, scoring two more runs for the Riverhawks and extending their lead to 4-0. The bases would be reloaded for the Riverhawks for the second time in the inning.

#58 Omar Gonzalez would continue to have a day, adding two more RBI’s to his daily total with a single to center, stretching the Riverhawks lead to 6-0. In the 7th, the catcher #32 Jason Green would drive in another, cranking a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring #39 Chris Parkin.

#2 Drew Veatch would absolutely crush a ball to left field in the 8th, earning his first home run in the WCL, increasing the gap in the Riverhawks lead to 8-0.

Corvallis looked to rally in the 9th, creating a no out, bases loaded situation. #41 Trey Nance had the answer to secure the shutout, retiring three straight batters, including a strikeout.The second road trip of the year finishes with a 3-5 record for the Riverhawks. Monster 5th earns Riverhawks series win, shut out Knights 8-0

Coming off a disappointing start to their road trip, the Riverhawks arrived in Corvallis looking to open the back half of their road trip with a bang. The offense struck early and battled the entire game, tallying one of their highest hit totals of the season with 13. Coming ever so close to a comeback with the go ahead run on base in the 9th, the Riverhawks were unable to complete the comeback, falling 6-5 in Corvallis.

 continued his recent tear tonight, increasing his hit streak to 7 games and adding 2 more RBI’s to his 2026 total. 

 also continued his hot streak, going 2/4 adding an RBI of his own and cashing in two runs.

In the first inning, the Riverhawks wasted no time jumping out to a 1-0 lead.

The Knights would respond with a counter the very next inning. After

 hit a double that bounced high off the 8ft left field wall to tie the game 1-1.

The bottom of the 2nd saw the Knights extend their early lead, as 

 hit a single up the middle to score one. With the bases loaded and 2 out, a wild pitch added an insurance run as

The Knights would have another response for the Riverhawks rally, as 

 cranks a sacrifice fly to right field to regain the insurance run for Corvallis. 5-3 would be the score after the 6th. The runs would continue, as 

 would add to his RBI total on the night, hitting a single to center to score another to make it 6-3.The late rally attempt started in the 8th for the Riverhawks, as 

 followed him up with a walk. Corvallis almost escaped the jam before 

 slapped a double down the 3rd base line to make it a 6-4 ballgame.

The momentum would continue for the Riverhawks in the 9th as 

 was absolutely drilled on the leadoff pitch of the inning to secure a lead off walk, followed by another walk by 

 to draw the lead to just one as he grabs his second RBI of the game, cutting the lead to 6-5. With runners on first and second, the Riverhawks were unable to cash the tying run, falling to the Knights for the first time this season.

The Riverhawks finished with 13 hits on the night, almost completing the comeback in Corvallis.

Riverhawks Rally Late, Not Enough to take Down Knights

With a tough stretch of games including a double header on Wednesday, your Riverhawks looked to close out their series against the AppleSox on a positive note. They did exactly that off of an unreal performance by Riverhawks starter 

. The lefty pitched 7 scoreless innings only allowing 2 hits, 2 walks and tallying 6 strikeouts. Sheppard now has had at least 6 K’s in his last 3 starts, putting himself amongst the top 10 strikeout leaders in the entire WCL. The Riverhawks offense also a major compliment to the pitching performance tonight.

Sheppard throws 7 scoreless innings, Riverhawks avoid sweep in Wenatchee

After a promising first 6 innings to their second road trip of 2026, the Edmonton Riverhawks could not hold off a late rally from the AppleSox, falling 5-4 in their series opener on Tuesday.

After carrying a 3-0 lead into the 7th inning, AppleSox left fielder 

 drilled a 2 run shot to cut the Riverhawks lead into just 1. After 

 added an 8th inning insurance run to make it 4-2, a chaotic 8th inning saw Wenatchee regain a 5-4 AppleSox

advantage. From there, the Riverhawks could not spark a rally of their own, falling 5-4.

The Riverhawks offense showed promise through the first 6, particularly in the bottom of the order. 

 was on fire tonight, going 3-4 tallying 3 XBH, including a solo shot in the top of the 4th inning. 

 also drilled his first home run of the season in the 6th, sparking a 3-0 lead for the Riverhawks. Riverhawks starting pitcher 

 also had a solid outing. Through 6 innings, the Riverhawks starter had given up just 2 hits, tallying 6 strikeouts, and 6 consecutive 1,2,3 innings.

With 2 outs in the 2nd inning, the bottom of the Riverhawks order cashed in the first runs of the ball.

Late-game surge puts Wenatchee over Edmonton

Riverhawks can’t close out AppleSox, fall 5-4 in series opener

EDMONTON, AB—The Edmonton Riverhawks have emerged as the winner of their first ever West Coast League series against the Yakima Valley Pippins. Playing Sunday (June 14) at RE/MAX Field, the Riverhawks downed the Pippins 11-4 . Edmonton took two of three against the Washington State crew as they won their first series of the 2026 WCL season.

The 5,769 fans on hand witnessed a game where their team rallied from an early deficit to come away with their sixth victory of the season. Edmonton (6-8) had 11 runs on 10 hits and committed two errors. Yakima Valley (8-7) scored four times on 10 hits with two errors.

 entered the contest with the West Coast League’s top batting average (.453). with one out in the fourth inning, he improved on that figure as he sent 

 offering over the fence in left field. His second homer of the season made it 1-0 Pippins.

hit the ball straight back to Gonzalez but was able to make it to first. Garcia would score when Gonzalez tried to pick off 

at first base but his throw went into right field. That made it 2-0.

The Riverhawks will get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth.

Still in that inning, Edmonton loads the bases. With one out

. Green winds up with a triple. Riverhawks take the lead 4-1.Green scored two batters later when Pippins catcher 

 at first base and his throw went into right field. Sato would score when Kriesel looped a ball into left field. The home side sent 11 players to the plate in that fourth inning, scoring six runs on four hits. Riverhawks up 6-2.

The Pippins cut the deficit to four in the top of the fifth

 up the middle with an RBI single. That made the score 6-3.

The Riverhawks load the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning and go up 8-3. Van Slyke walks and scores on a fielder’s choice when 

 hits a ground ball. The next batter was 

 who ripped it down the line in right field bringing Green across. Edmonton loads the bases and go up 9-3 as Andrews is hit by a pitch which pushed Clark home from third. With bases still loaded,

bloops it into the gap near the shortstop. He reaches first on the RBI as Veatch comes in to score. The Riverhawks add one more as Van Slyke, the 10th batter of the inning puts into right field which brought in Cole Kriesel. Edmonton goes up by eight: 11-3.

Yakima Valley added one more run in the ninth. 

 singled to left field and scored when Garciasingled .

Reliever #41 Trey Nance, the second of four Edmonton pitchers got the victory. It was his first of the WCL campaign as he pitched one inning of one hit ball, giving up a run, walked three and faced seven batters. Burgess was tagged with the loss in his WCL debut. He went three and a third, giving up five runs on five hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Offensively, Andrews was 1 for 4 with a run scored and two runs batted in. He was injured trying to slide home in the bottom of the eighth. His status for the coming week is unknown. Green and Wakui were both 2 for 4. Green had three RBI and two runs scored. Wakui had an RBI. Veatch was 2 for 5 with a run scored.

Yakima Valley was led by Garcia and Burt. Both were two for four with a run scored and an RBI a piece.

“It was very exciting to win our first series,” said Riverhawks head coach Jake Lanferman. “ We are hoping to build off of it as we head on the road. I thought our bats and at bats were more consistent this weekend. The way we manufactured two (runs) in the ninth late yesterday (a loss) spilled over today. We need to continue to keep momentum.”

“I was impressed with Gonzalaz today,” the Riverhawks bench boss continued. “ I thought he threw really well. Owen Combs did a great job of eating up a couple of big innings for us. Strike throwing is something we are trying to find and emphasise with the pitchers to be more consistent. Especially at RE/MAX, we want to see hitters beat us. We will never be angry with a homer or a single/double in play. It lets our defence work.”

This was “Santa’s Toy Takeover!! With 880 CHED Santa’s Anonymous where fans were encouraged to bring toys to RE/MAX Field. As it was Sunday, fans were allowed to bring their dogs to the ballpark. Fans dipping into the 50/50 in this contest were extremely generous.

The Riverhawks now hit the road for seven games beginning Tuesday (June 16th) in Wenatchee, Washington against the Apple Sox. Start time is 6:35 PM PDT/7:35 PM MDT. The Apple Sox and Edmonton will play a doubleheader on Wednesday (June 17th). The extra game is a make-up of one that was rained out at RE/MAX Field earlier this season. After the four games there, the Riverhawks move onto Corvallis to meet the Knights.

Lanferman says the four games in three nights scenario will be a daunting task for both teams pitching staffs. “Travel is not going to be too awesome for us,” he laughs. “But you have to roll with it. It is a tough road trip. We have our arms now so we can establish our roles and our rotation. “

Next home game for the Hawks is Friday, June 26th when they open up a three game set against Port Angeles. Opening Pitch is 7:05 PM MDT.

The Pippins return home to Yakima Valley to begin a three game series against the Bend Elks. First game is Wednesday, June 17th with a 6:35 PM PDT start time.

EXTRA INNINGS: Lanferman on how much is he looking at wins and losses in the first half of the WCL season. “The way we started too. Going 3 and 6—winning the front half outright has to be put in the back of our minds. We just want to play good baseball and get back where we are competing. And that’s what I like. Looking at this homestand: Not so happy with the Victoria series but against Yakima---this is where we want to be. We get rolling so when the back half (of the season) hits, we are playing our best baseball. We will have a shot to be .500 or around .500, we will be in a position to compete for the overall title. “

Riverhawks win their first series of 2026 WCL Regular Season

11-Run Win Puts Hawks on Top of Pippins

It was a gorgeous Saturday evening with bright blue skies as the Edmonton Riverhawks hit the field for their second game against the Yakima Valley Pippins. After besting the Pippins the previous night, the Riverhawks were looking to keep their offensive momentum that’s been carrying them through the home stand. Unfortunately the bats didn’t follow through, as the Hawks narrowly avoided a shutout by a tandem of Pippins pitchers. Pushing through a pair of runs in the bottom of the 9th, the Hawks still combined for nine hits across the game, the majority of which were isolated singles. The pitching staff hit some struggles as well, as they walked eleven batters and hit 5.

While neither team got much action in the 1st, Hawks’ starting pitcher 

managed to erase the Pippin’s first runner thanks to an expert pickoff at first base. Similarly, in the 2nd DeVos was able to corral the frame after some walks and a hit batter by tossing a pair of swinging strikeouts.

The Hawks started putting things together in the bottom of the 2nd as hits from 

 loaded the bags with two outs. #24 Cale Clark made contact, but his bouncing grounder was nabbed before it could escape the outfield and the toss to first beat Clark by a step, preventing the Hawks from hitting the scoreboard. Backing up DeVos in the top of the 3rd, both Andrews at first and 

 made diving plays to hold the Pippins to a hitless inning. Similarly, in the 4th DeVos stopped the Pippins in their tracks, earning another three Ks as he retired the side.

Yakima ended up being the first team to break into the runs column in the 5th, after a hit batter a near-foul ball that bounced all the way into the right field corner to sit as a triple, and a sac fly put the Pippins up by 2. A retaliatory hit from Clark was backed up by a deep single from 

, but the two-out scoring chance was again spoiled by a fly out to shallow left.

DeVos ran into trouble in the 6th, after a single, walk, and hit batter loaded the bags.

That would be it for DeVos as he pitched 5.0+, earned 5 strikeouts, but allowed 4 hits, 5 walks, and 3 hit batters. Taking over with the bags juiced and no outs, 

 hit the mound and gave up a 2 RBI single up the middle. That’s before the Hawks were able to turn a 6-4-3 double play and induce a fly to end the half. The 7th was less dramatic for Massey as he worked through the inning only giving up a walk and a hit.

 got the assignment for the 8th, but a walk, a single, a double, and a sacrifice fly put Yakima up by another pair of runs that Edmonton was unable to answer. After a four pitch walk Sakamoto was removed in favour of 

 Back-to-back singles off Starko pumped up the Pippins’ numbers further, as they plated another four runs before Riley could curb the side with a K. The Hawks switched things up in the bottom of the 8th, with a fleet of pinch hitters.

 knocked a two-out single to send Yakima to a pitching change. #15 Braeden Scott earned a walk, but it wasn’t enough as a fly to centre put the Hawks to rest in the 8th.

Starko returned to the mound for the 9th with new battery-mate 

. A hit batter and a pair of walks spelled the end of his appearance, and got 

 to take over. A sac fly pushed the 10th run home for the Pippins before a strikeout gave the Hawks their last chance at bat.

A last chance rally, Clark dropped a ground rule double up the left side to score 

 who’d been hit by a pitch prior. Another run scooted across as
