Continuing their first road series of the season, the Edmonton Riverhawks faced off against the Victoria HarbourCats for the second time tonight. Looking to redeem themselves after last night’s loss, the Hawks came swinging right off the bat and ended up with a 13-11 win. Edmonton’s offence stayed strong and patient through the game, combining for 11 hits and 15 walks. There were struggles at points as the defence combined for four errors, and late inning struggles from the bullpen led to Victoria being able to stay competitive. The bright spots in the line up belong to Easton Andrews going 3-for-5 with seven RBIs and a home run, Matt Vanslyke with a hit and four walks, and Kotaro Wakui, who was on base four times in six plate appearances.

The Riverhawks had an easygoing 1st inning at bat, as leadoff hitter 

 was also walked to load the bags. Cleanup hitter 

 got to live up to his role, as he drilled the ball to right-centre and sent two runners home with a double. 

 followed Andrews’ lead and smacked a 2-run double to nearly the exact same location to make it a 4-0 ballgame with just a single out. 

 was walked to load the bases once again, restart the order, and chase Victoria’s starter Daniel Tovar before a strikeout ended the half-inning. 

 got his start in the bottom half with a pretty safe lead to play with, and while he issued a walk and a hit, he left the inning unscathed thanks in part to a runner gunned down by his battery-mate 

The Hawks weren’t done after the first as Wakui took a rip at his first pitch of the second and laced a double to the left field corner. An E6 let Vanslyke stay at first before a wild pitch sent both runner up a bag. Another mash from Andrews down to the left corner send both runners home and made it four runs batted in by the Hawks DH with a single. With an embiggened lead for his second inning on the bump, Halvorson gave up his first major hit with Victoria’s leadoff triple. A misplay on a pickoff attempt led to the first HarbourCats run, and was followed by a sacrifice fly to cut down the Hawks’ lead.

Dion led off the 3rd with a walk on four straight balls, then was balked to second base before Fox was issued a free pass as well. Vanslyke’s single to shallow left sent Dion home. After a one-pitch out to start the bottom of the 3rd, Halvorson issued a four-pitch walk but was able to corral the frame with a fly out and his first K of the game.

 got on base for the first time in the 4th with a walk, after he had popped out twice prior. A hit from Dion gave the Riverhawks another runner, then Fox walked before Wakui hit a grounder up the first base foul line and under the outfield fence for a 2 RBI ground-rule-double. A walk to Vanslyke re-loaded the bases with two outs, but a ground out stopped the Hawks from hitting double digits in the 4th. The HarbourCats took Halvorson’s 55th pitch for a ride as a home run to left flew for their third run. Then after a walk, the Hawks had a defensive breakdown from a bobble at third and overthrows to first, second, and home leading to Victoria’s fourth run on a pair of errors. Halvorson got a meeting at the mound to regroup, but another misplay at third handed Vic another run and ended Chase’s night. 

came in and cleaned up the inning with a grounder, a foul pop up and a thrown out runner at third.

With a couple of early outs, the Hawks had their first scoreless inning of the game in the 5th, stranding Scott and Gonzalez on base. Fink stayed in the game and started his first fresh inning with a strikeout looking. In the 6th the Hawks stayed patient and received three walks in a row (with a caught stealing) to Wakui, Vanslyke, and Andrews. Another balk put a pair in scoring position for 

 (in his second at bat after pinch hitting in the 4th) to crash an RBI single up the left field line. A play at the plate goes Victoria’s way but the Hawks still get their 10th run. Fink met his first bits of resistance from the Cats as they work a double and a walk off of him. A rough bounce to short gives Victoria a run, but Fink limits the damage to just a single run in the 6th.

came into the game for the bottom of the 7th after a three-up-three-down Hawks’ half. A walk, a single, and a hit batter loaded the bags for the Cats with just one out. A strikeout and a sac fly give some resistance before the HarbourCats earned another run before a dropped third strike held the Hawks’ lead by two going into the 8th.

Facing a newly slimmed lead the Riverhawks stayed patient with walks to Fox and Vanslyke. Then in his fifth plate appearance of the game, Easton Andrews clobbered a deep drive to right field for his first home run as a Riverhawk. Taking the mound afterwards with a renewed 5-run lead, 

 walked the bases loaded. After a K, a misplay on the transfer at second led to a Cats run and the bags staying loaded, leading to a walked in tenth Victoria run. That would be the end of the road for Gonzalez, and 

would replace him. After walking in another run for the Cats, Colville worked a pair of Ks to escape the inning and once again leave the Hawks with a two run lead.

With the Hawks unable to make anything happen in the 9th, it was up to Colville to carry them through. A leadoff infield single and a drop shot to shallow centre put the tying run at the plate with no outs. A 6-4-3 double play evened out things and put Logan just three strikes away, and he was able to use four more pitches to notch them and secure the win.

Riverhawks Pile On Runs to Take Road Game Number 2

 opened up the road portion of their 2026 

regular season with a loss. The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead wound up on the short end of a 6-3 decision to host the 

at Wilson’s Group Stadium on Tuesday (June 2).

Edmonton falls to 1-2 on the season while Victoria improves to 2-2 as they drew 2,163 fans for their home opener. The Riverhawks had three runs on eight hits with one error. The HarbourCats tallied six runs on 12 hits and committed two errors.

The Riverhawks opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. 

 led it off with a stand up double to left center field. Edmonton loaded the bases before Vic starter Hudson Lance walked 

 to bring in Andrews for the game’s first run.

The HarbourCats get on the board and take the lead in the bottom of the fourth. With two out and two on, Edmonton reliever 

served up a broken bat single. The ball went to left field where 

 bobbled it to give Victoria a 2-1 advantage.

The HarbourCats enlarged their lead to three in the bottom of the 5th leading the inning off with a single up the middle, scoring on an RBI single. Victoria would load the bases a little later on in that inning. Dryden Fuoco stepped in and singled to bring to make it a 5-1 score. All those runs coming off Heaney. Heaney was charged with the loss.

Victoria made it a 6-1 game in the 6th, a ball down the third base line that Hawks infielder Fox couldn’t contain scored a runner from third.

Edmonton loaded the bases in the top half of the 7th. Designated hitter 

 walked and was brought home when Andrews was hit by a pitch. 

For Edmonton: Andrews was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Fox was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Green was 2 for 5 with a run scored.

Riverhawks Drop Opener of Series in Victoria

 locked down the back half of last night’s game, the 

looking to balance the 2026 West Coast League’s season opening series. To bring the good vibes to the field this evening the Riverhawks debuted their 2026 alternate identity: The 

The Hawks proved to have strong roots as they held on to an early lead to emerge victorious with a 10-7 win over Wenatchee. Jaxon Fox and Easton Andrews each notched two RBI games, while Matt Vanslyke reached base four times. With Derek DeVos starting the game and tossing 3.0 clean innings the bullpen took over and handled the rest of the game, including a two inning appearance from Alan Gonzalez to close out the game and earn the win.

 got the game underway for Edmonton on the mound, but a pair of errors led to a free run for the AppleSox. An E5 meant that Wenatchee’s second batter could reach first by beating out a bobbled throw, then after stealing second, came home on a missed pickoff. A sac fly sent another runner home before DeVos could close the top with a strikeout looking.


 led off the Hawks’ half of the 1st with a base hit straight up the middle, then advanced on a passed ball.

 followed up with the second hit of the inning then 

 earned an RBI with a liner to left, before 

 drove the ball 352 feet to the right field wall with a 2RBI double to take the lead. #

 continued the game-opening rally with a single to short, and an AppleSox balk sent Andrews home. As the Hawks batted around in the 1st, 

 drove home Sato with a double to chase Wenatchee’s starter.


DeVos stayed strong, holding Wenatchee to just one hit across his next two innings, before being replaced in the 4th by 

. Heath tossed a clean inning with a single base on balls issued. The Hawks sprung back to the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th as Tony Moore reached second on a fielding error, then after being pushed to third base from a fielder’s choice, he dashed home on a wild pitch for Edmonton’s seventh run.

The 5th served Hachkowski a bit of trouble as Wenatchee was able to score off of a sacrifice flyand a throwing error on a groundout. After issuing his third walk, Hachkowski was swapped out for 

 who earned the last out of the inning. The Riverhawks attempted to regain some insurance in the 5th, but only Sato was able to reach base. Sakamoto’s 6th featured Wenatchee laying down multiple bunts to clog the basepaths leading to an outfield single tying the game. Catcher 

fired a missile down to second to catch a runner trying to steal, and helped seal off further damage.


 got the assignment with a new ballgame in the 7th, and faced a similar litany of bunts as Sakamoto did. Thankfully, Starko was able to hold the AppleSox to just a walk in just 14 pitches. Mitchell Middlemiss broke the tie in the 7th (after VanSlyke was walked) with a deep drive to right pushing VanSlyke from first to home.

, and he only required four pitches to retire the side with a pop out, a fly, and a grounder. His brother 

 led off the bottom half as a pinch hitter, and worked an 0-2 count all the way into a walk. 

 hit the bag as a pinch runner for Omar and stole second before 

 (who had entered the game as a pinch hitter in the 6th) earned a walk of his own. Moore sac bunted to move both runners into scoring position in time for Fox to pad the lead with a 2RBI single and put a cap on the Riverhawks’ 10-run game. Alan Gonzalez returned to the bump to finish off the game with a trio of strikeouts and to earn the game win.


The tied series will conclude tomorrow afternoon with Paws in the Park. It won’t just be human Hawks fans lining the stands, but the canine ones too. Go over to

Edmonton combines for 10 runs to even the series against Wenatchee

Tree Huggers Stretch Their Branches Past AppleSox for First W of the Season

 are back for the 2026 West Coast League season and kicked things off against the 

. After an hour’s rain delay the Hawks took the field clad in brand new indigenous designed hats and jerseys in front of 6705 fans packing RE/MAX Field.


While Wenatchee took the game 6-2 over Edmonton, the Riverhawks took an early lead that they carried into the 5th. Unable to find solid footing on the mound after staring pitcher Sam Coxen carried two clean innings, the Riverhawks bullpen surrendered nine hits to the AppleSox, and only held one scoreless inning in the back half of the game. At the plate the Hawks combined for 11 strikeouts with only Jason Green and Mitchell Middlemiss avoiding the K in the starting lineup. Edmonton struggled to put together any cohesive rallies after the 2nd, with multiple innings of back-to-back groundouts.

 to kick off the season, and he managed to punctuate the 1st frame with his first strikeout in Edmonton. Coxen returned for the 2nd and retired his next batter on three straight swings, then held Wenatchee hitless through the inning.

 earned the honours of the first Hawks base hit of the season, leading off the 2nd with a line drive to left-centre. A fielder’s choice to 

 swapped runners at first before a walk to 

 moved the runner up. This primed things for 

’s RBI double that sent Middlemiss home and earned the Hawks their initial lead.

 took over on the mound for the 3rd and kept up Coxen’s momentum, while the Sox got their first hit off a bouncer up the middle, Fink fought back to get a strikeout to polish off the frame. Fink earned another strikeout in the 4th but was replaced with two outs with 

, the LOOGY who grounded out his first batter.

Sheppard returned for the 5th and got a strikeout looking before a pair of base hits and a balk gave Wenatchee their first honest chance of the game. A two-RBI single up the middle pushed the AppleSox into the lead before Sheppard could retire the side with a swinging strikeout.


A call to the arm barn in the 6th brought out 

, but an extended at bat against the AppleSox leadoff batter ended in a home run to left and extended Wenatchee’s lead. Colville was able to bring an end to the top half of the 6th with a swinging K

 led off the bottom half with a bunt single to the third base side off the first pitch he saw. Fox showed his speed as he was able to beat out the throw and give a jolt to the lineup. Still heads up, Fox moved to second base on a missed pickoff, then third on a wild pitch,

 followed up with a walk to chase the AppleSox’s starter from the game. Another wild pitch moved Sato into scoring position before Green belted a sacrifice fly to score Fox and give Edmonton their second run. Sato would then get tagged at the plate with a hasty run home on a bullet single from Middlemiss.

 got the honours on the mound for the 7th, and only surrendered a base hit while taking care of the Sox with a pair of swinging Ks. Wakui got plunked with his first pitch of the bottom half, before a fielder’s choice from 

, before another grounder up the middle by pinch hitter 

Craven carried on into the 8th and notched his third K against the leadoff batter. But, after handing out back-to-back-to-back walks moved Wenatchees runners into the danger zone. The call from the pen brought 

 to close out the inning, but not before Wenatchee could run out of a double play and add on a fourth run.

, who gave up a walk and stolen bag. Fielding the ball and turning to make a toss to an empty third base, Wallace was tripped up on an infield hit letting runners stand on the corners with no outs. A ꓘ bought Wallace some room, but a line drive to shallow left scored both runners for Wenatchee. Wallace cleared the frame with another K and a grounder before the Hawks got their last chance to bat.

While getting hit in the wrist wasn’t the start to the inning Jason Green was likely looking for, but the HBP runner ended up getting switched for Middlemiss on a fielder’s choice. A strikeout put the Hawks down to their last chance as Middlemiss stole second. A swinging strikeout sealed the game for Wenatchee, and started Edmonton’s season out with a loss.

The Riverhawks will rebound tomorrow night as they debut the 2026 alternate identity: The River Valley Tree Huggers. The whole stadium will be celebrating the Edmonton River Valley with lost of festivities in the stands and on the screens along with the team.

Wenatchee surged in the back half to overtake Riverhawks

Hawks Held Back in Home Opener

EDMONTON, AB—The Edmonton Riverhawks entered uncharted waters as they played host to their first ever West Coast League North Division final. The key word turned out to be “waters”. The final—a ‘one-game-winner-take-all” affair featured a one hour and 47 minute hour rain/lightning delay.

At the time, the Bellingham Bells were leading the Riverhawks 4-2 after seven innings of play. The Bells went onto win 5-2 to capture their fifth straight WCL North Division title.

There were 7,439 fans on hand at RE/MAX for the first ever divisional final to be played in the Alberta capital. 

The Bells scored five runs on nine hits and had one error. The Riverhawks had two runs on seven hits and committed three errors.

Bellingham advances to the league championship final on Thursday (Aug 14). Their opponents will be the Portland Pickles, who won the South Division title with a 6-5 come from behind victory over the Corvallis Knights. The championship will be played in Portland.

In this game, Bellingham threatened early. In the top of the first, they loaded the bases after Riverhawks pitcher 

 reached base on a fielder’s choice and #

 walked. Ridsdale got #11 Kalen Kirkpatrick to strike out. 

 ground the ball back to Ridsdale for the easy throw to first to retire the side without giving up a run.

 led off the bottom of the first for Edmonton with a single up the middle. 

 hit a ground ball which was bobbled by Bells third baseman Kirkpatrick. Yip beat the throw to first to put two aboard. After

The Riverhawks open the scoring in their half of the second.

The Bells looked to even it up in the top of the third. Aguayo led off with a single, stole second and made it to third on a throwing error. With two out, Balsz hit a solid rope to Riverhawk shortstop 

 jumped up to make the catch to end the inning.In the fourth, Bellingham loaded the bases for a second time. 

 walked. That was followed by back-to-back singles off the bats of 

. Meffert scored on a wild pitch and the game was tied at 1.Edmonton regained the lead in their half of the inning. 

 walked and scored on an RBI bloop single to left off the bat of Stagg.

The Bells played some ‘small ball’ to their advantage in the top of the sixth. Kirkpatrick singled to lead it off. Then both Quiban and Meffert executed perfect bunts and beat the throw to first base to load the bases. Riverhawks reliever 

 got Bellingham to pop up, strike out and ground out to nullify the threat.

Bellingham loaded the bases again in the seventh. McConnell gave up singles to Lamb and

 After he elected to go to third but the throw wasn’t fast enough to get Lamb, Balasz got on base on the fielder’s choice. That prompted the Riverhawks to replace McConnell with 

 After he got a strikeout, Quiban found a hole between left and center field. That brough home Lamb and Cassie. Quiban would later score on a sacrifice fly to center by Meffert. The Bells took their first lead of the contest 4-2. McConnell wound up taking the loss. He pitched two innings, surrendering three runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one.

Mother nature had to be a part of this contest too. The game was halted after seven due to a lightning delay. When it resumed, the Riverhawks changed pitchers. 

 was on the hill. So did the Bells, with them sending 

The Bells took advantage right away. Sell walked and moved to second on a successful bunt by Aguago. Both advanced on another bunt-this one by Lamb. Sell scored on a passed ball to make it 5-2.

The Riverhawks gave it all they had. Bottom of the ninth: 

 led it off with a flare into right field. Three Bells converged and the ball dropped between them. Fox wound up with a double off Bellingham reliever 

. Peterson picked up the save going one inning, giving up a hit and striking out one.

“Crazy things can happen, “stated Riverhawks outfielder Max Stagg about the delay. “We were saying in the clubhouse that things were getting weird (referring to the long rain/lightning delay). Its baseball. Bellingham is a really quality program. We knew that from inning one to inning nine, they were going to throw punches at us and keep chipping away. It is what it is. I am proud of our guys. To go through the rain delay and still come out and give everything they had in the eighth and ninth innings.”

“I saw a couple of early bases loaded jams that we were able to work our way out of,” assessed Riverhawks coach Jake Lanferman. “ We had a 2-1 lead moving to the later innings. They bunted extremely well and did it to the point that it made it difficult for us to defend. A call goes either way and it would have been different perhaps. I thought we played quality baseball but that’s the way it goes sometimes.”

Quiban led the way offensively for Bellingham. He was 2-5 with two runs batted in. Meffert was 1-2 with a run scored and a run batted in. Aguyago went 1-4.

Cote was 2-4 with a run scored for the Riverhawks. Stagg went 3-5 with two runs batted in. Sato was 1-4.

 was the winning pitcher in relief for Bellingham. He pitched three innings striking out two.

‘We obviously fell short of advancing to the championship final, “said Stagg. “As a group, we showed up everyday with the will to work and the will to grind it out together. It is a long summer. We did a really good job of jelling as a team and working together as one collective unit and family and tried to achieve the ultimate goal. It was an amazing summer.”

“This group exceeded every expectation, “Lanferman assessed looking back at 2025. “They are first class guys. They represented our city well and our baseball club too. They made me extremely proud. I am going to miss these guys. It’s only two months of the year but it seems like a lot longer. I am excited to watch them (the players) in the spring and I am already excited about recruiting for next year.”

EXTRA INNINGS: The Riverhawks honored a number of local champions before the contest. Three-time Olympian and new performance manager of Canada’s 3x3 basketball program Michelle Plouffe threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

With the attendance at this game, the Riverhawks new WCL single season record set this year was 148,660 people. Lanferman on what made the 2025 Riverhawks so special: “I think the resilience and the grittiness to play baseball early on in the summer was very apparent to us. The group molded so well and so fast. When you have character guys leading and great baseball players that can bridge that gap—it’s a recipe for success. The guys did an incredible job.”

Lanferman on Edmonton establishing a ‘winning culture’: “ I think it started with the returning guys from last year. Playing our baseball (hard nosed, gritty), having fun while doing it. Making them feel comfortable and improving as baseball players. I think this group established what we can do—what this city has for baseball players. It is going to be fun to watch how we grow moving forward.’

Hawks Fall to the Bells 5-2

Edmonton Riverhawks Season Comes to a Close

The Edmonton Riverhawks are moving onto the second round of the West Coast League playoffs. For the first time in franchise history, the Riverhawks have won a first round series as they defeated the visiting Victoria HarbourCats 8-7. Edmonton wins the best of three affair two games to one. There were 2312 spectators taking in the history making game at RE/MAX Field on Sunday. The Riverhawks scored eight runs on seven hits and committed one error. Victoria had seven runs on ten hits and had two errors.

Riverhawks head coach Jake Lanferman took it all in stride when asked what the victory means for the franchise. “Each year, we are trying to progress and move to the next step. I really think we have a special group this season. We have shown it countless times. It has been so much fun to watch. Hopefully we can continue to play good baseball heading into Tuesday.”

After beating the Riverhawks 3-1 Saturday in Game 2, the HarbourCats got on the sticks in the top of the first.

The Riverhawks answered quickly in their half of the inning and with authority.

The Riverhawks notching six runs on four hits and two Victoria errors in an inning where nine Edmonton batters went to the plate. The home side was up 6-0.

The HarbourCats got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Lopez and 

 hit singles and were brought home on a single to left field courtesy of 

Edmonton added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Yip was hit by a pitch, Lenihan followed with a single and both were driven home on a two out single to left by 

. Sato was tagged out going back to first base but not before the Riverhawks went up 8-2.

Victoria scored again and a lot in the top of the ninth inning. They sent ten men to the plate

 hit a looper over second base and scored with the bases loaded when reliever 

 hit Afework. Egan then hit the next batter pinch hitter 

 to bring home Butler who earlier singled. That made the score 8-4. The Harbourcats added one more when #6 Tristen Buehring hit a sacrifice to left field which allowed 

 to scamper home from third. Victoria cut the deficit to a single run (8-7) when Eagan served up a double to #3 which scored two runs. Egan was replaced by 

 who got Lopez to fly out to right field to end the inning and earned the save, facing two batters in his outing.

Chamberlain earned the victory going eight and a third innings. He was pulled after loading the bases in the top of the ninth inning. Chamberlain gave up nine hits, struck out seven, surrendering five runs and faced 34 men. At one point, he retired 13 Victoria batters in a row.

Patrick threw six innings, giving up six runs, on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks. He faced 27 batters as he was tagged with the loss.

Offensively: Lenihan was 2-4 with two runs scored. Sato was 1-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Waters and Cote were 1-3 with one run batted in. Fox was 1-4 with a run scored and Kodema was 0-2 with two runs batted in.

Lopez was 2-5 with a run scored while Afework was 1-3 with three runs batted in for Victoria.

Lanferman reflected on game three saying it had a bit of everything starting with six runs scored in the bottom of the first. “Then we allowed their starter to get into a bit of a rhythm and made it more challenging for us. The Sato hit (in the bottom of the seventh) gave us a little more insurance. You see how critical that insurance was in the end when anything could happen. They strung a couple of hits together and it’s a ball game. Kudos to our guys. You could crumble when things don’t go your way. Great job by our guys to stick with it.”

The Riverhawks will now tangle with the Bellingham Bells in the winner-take-all WCL North Division Final on Tuesday. The Bells rallied from a 2-0 deficit to sore twice in the eighth inning, one more in the ninth to erase being down 3-2 and added one more in the 10th to eliminate the Wenatchee AppleSox 4-3 in the third and deciding game of their first round series. The Bells had nine hits and one error. Wenatchee had three runs on four hits. The Bells/Riverhawks Divisional Final has a 7:05 PM MDT opening pitch on Tuesday night at RE/MAX Field.
