Nance Throws Another Gem As Hawks Take First In Kelowna

Solid pitching was backed by active bats in 8-1 victory

KELOWNA, BC—#41 Trey Nance was honored for his best pitching performance of the season by being named the West Coast League Pitcher of the Week. That was last week. Nance is making a strong case to keeping that honor.

Nance pitched seven innings of four hit ball helping his Edmonton Riverhawks take the opener of their WCL series in Kelowna. On Friday (July 31), the Hawks beat the host Falcons at Elks Stadium 8-1.

Edmonton is now 27-22 as they push to secure one of two WCL North Division playoff spots. The Falcons have fallen to 25-24. The Riverhawks scored eight runs on 10 hits and had one error. Kelowna had a run on five hits with two errors.

Back to Nance, who committed to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff last week. The 6’0” righthander from Lake Stevens, Washington struck out seven and walked one in seven innings of work. He is 4 and 1 on the season.

The Riverhawks scored two runs in the third, added four in the fourth with singles coming in the seventh and eighth innings. Kelowna got their lone run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Riverhawks reliever #40 Rece Allensworth gave up a one out homer to # 33 Jadin Moreno. Allensworth came in to pitch for that ninth inning, replacing # 14 Nathan Ling who pitched the eighth.

Offensively, Edmonton was led by #24 Cale Clark. He was 2 for 4 at the dish with a run scored and two runs batted in. #13 Jaxon Fox was also 2 for 4 with a run scored and one RBI. #23 Justin Heffler went 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI while #36 Mitchell Middlemiss was 1 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI and #32 Jason Green had a 1 for 4 performance offensively with a run batted in.

#6 Cade Burnham was 2 for 4 for the Falcons. Moreno went 1 for 2 with a run batted in. Kelowna starter # 48 Brady Renneberg (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He pitched a six hitter over three innings, giving up five runs while walking four and striking out one.

The Riverhawks and Falcons will return to Elks Stadium to play game two of their three game set tomorrow (Sat Aug 1). It’s a 7:35 PM MDT start time. You can watch the game on WCT TV https://wcleague.watch.pixellot.tv/. The teams wind things up on Sunday (Aug 2).

The Hawks will close the 2026 West Coast League regular season with three key games in Bellingham against the Bells. Bellingham is one of three other teams battling with Edmonton for two available playoff spots in the WCT North Division. The others are the Victoria HarbourCats and the Nanaimo NightOwls. Bellingham beat Victoria 7-2 on Friday while Nanaimo dropped an 8-2 decision to Port Angeles. North Division leading Wenatchee was a 6-5 victor over the NorthPaws in Kamloops on Friday.
