Late-game surge puts Wenatchee over Edmonton

After a promising first 6 innings to their second road trip of 2026, the Edmonton Riverhawks could not hold off a late rally from the AppleSox, falling 5-4 in their series opener on Tuesday.
After carrying a 3-0 lead into the 7th inning, AppleSox left fielder #6 Kanoa Santiago drilled a 2 run shot to cut the Riverhawks lead into just 1. After #2 Drew Veatch added an 8th inning insurance run to make it 4-2, a chaotic 8th inning saw Wenatchee regain a 5-4 AppleSox
advantage. From there, the Riverhawks could not spark a rally of their own, falling 5-4.
The Riverhawks offense showed promise through the first 6, particularly in the bottom of the order. #58 Omar Gonzalez was on fire tonight, going 3-4 tallying 3 XBH, including a solo shot in the top of the 4th inning. #31 Kotaro Wakui also drilled his first home run of the season in the 6th, sparking a 3-0 lead for the Riverhawks. Riverhawks starting pitcher #19 Carter Fink also had a solid outing. Through 6 innings, the Riverhawks starter had given up just 2 hits, tallying 6 strikeouts, and 6 consecutive 1,2,3 innings.
With 2 outs in the 2nd inning, the bottom of the Riverhawks order cashed in the first runs of the ball. #58 Omar Gonzalez and #2 Shiryu Sato belted back to back doubles to bring in the first run of the game. In the top of the 4th with a full count, #58 Omar Gonzalez continued his impressive offensive outing with a solo home run to make it 2-0 for the Riverhawks. #31 Kotaro Wakui led off the top of the 6th with a solo shot of his own, earning his first home run of the 2026 campaign, and extending the Riverhawks lead to 3-0
After #19 Carter Fink mowed down the AppleSox lineup with 6 straight 1,2,3 innings, #6 Kainoa Santiago finally solved him, hitting a 2 run home run to cut the Riverhawk lead down to 1 in the bottom of the 7th.
#48 Max Stagg opened up the 8th with a 4 pitch walk and made it around 3rd off a pair of wild pitches. With 2 out, #2 Drew Veatch did not hesitate, smacking the first pitch he saw off his at bat to left for a single, adding a clutch insurance run to make it 4-2 Riverhawks.
A chaotic 8th inning sees the AppleSox score 3 runs off of a series of walks, hit by pitches and passed balls by the Riverhawks. With 2 out and the bases loaded, a Riverhawks error forces two runners home for a 5-4 AppleSox lead.
