Box ScoreBy Ryan Johnson
With a tough stretch of games including a double header on Wednesday, your Riverhawks looked to close out their series against the AppleSox on a positive note. They did exactly that off of an unreal performance by Riverhawks starter #38 David Sheppard. The lefty pitched 7 scoreless innings only allowing 2 hits, 2 walks and tallying 6 strikeouts. Sheppard now has had at least 6 K’s in his last 3 starts, putting himself amongst the top 10 strikeout leaders in the entire WCL. The Riverhawks offense also a major compliment to the pitching performance tonight. #48 Max Stagg led the way, cashing 2 RBIs and an opposite field triple. Shiryu Sato had some sharp eyes at the plate, tallying two walks and scoring twice as well.
As the Riverhawks end their series on a high note in Wenatchee, they will have to carry that
momentum into tomorrow as they open the back half of their road trip in Corvallis to take on the Knights!
The Riverhawks would waste no time getting on the scoreboard in the second inning. #53 Omar Gonzalez and #32 Jason Green go back to back with their own respective singles. After a bunt moved both of them to scoring spots, the aussie #48 Max Stagg blooped a crafty single into
center, giving him RBI’s in back to back games. The scoring would continue as #35 Louis Dion labeled a high fly ball to left, scoring #32 Jason Green on a sac fly to make it 2-0 Riverhawks.
The bats reignited again in the 4th for the Riverhawks as #32 Jason Green worked a 9 pitch walk, before #59 Cale Clark wasted no time slapping a single to put two on and no out. #35 Louis Dion cashed in a run, scoring #32 Jason Green after cutting a single up the middle to make it 3-0.
In the 5th, #1 Shiryu Sato and #53 Omar Gonzalez are both drilled by pitches, putting them both on the corners with one out. #32 Jason Green capitalizes, drilling a ball to center and scoring Shiryu Sato on another Riverhawks sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
After back to back walks by #2 Shiryu Sato and #31 Kotaro Wakui, #59 Cale Clark comes up with 2 out and cranks a clutch oppo double to increase the Riverhawks lead to 5-0.
In the top of the 9th, the Aussie #48 Max Stagg left his mark on the game, absolutely crushing a ball to right field and hustling around for an RBI triple.
