    4 Riverhawks Earn All-WCL Honours

This morning, the West Coast League announced its 2026 All-WCL teams, and we’re excited to have four Riverhawks named to the list this year!

Leading the way is Riverhawks relief pitcher Trey Nance, who earned All-WCL First Team honours! Nance joins some impressive company as one of just a handful of Riverhawks players in franchise history to earn First Team All-WCL recognition.

In 18 appearances this season, Nance picked up four wins and one save, allowing just 10 runs and eight walks while racking up 37 strikeouts. His 1.77 ERA ranked among the best in the West Coast League, making him one of the league’s most reliable arms all season long, something Head Coach Jake Lanferman did not take for granted.

“Trey began the season as a relief pitcher and transitioned into a starting role in the back half of the season, providing us with consistent, quality starts,” Lanferman explains. “Whenever Trey had the ball, we always felt like we had a great opportunity to win a baseball game. This great recognition is well deserved, and our organization is proud of his accomplishment.”

And Nance wasn’t the only Riverhawks reliever to earn league-wide recognition. Right-hander Logan Colville was named to the All-WCL Second Team, giving the Riverhawks two bullpen arms among the league’s top players.

The St. Albert native, University of Alberta student, and Edmonton Collegiate Hawks player made 23 appearances for the Riverhawks this summer, maintaining an impressive 1.96 ERA while pitching in front of family, friends, and a hometown crowd.

His All-WCL selection is another exciting example of homegrown talent, showcasing the pathway for Edmonton-area players to develop through the Edmonton Collegiate Hawks program and into the Riverhawks. It was a progression that was particularly rewarding for Lanferman, who serves as Head Coach of both programs.

“Logan was tested early in high-leverage situations and consistently proved to be the guy we wanted on the mound when the game was on the line,” says Lanferman. “I’ve been fortunate to coach him for the past four years and have had the opportunity to watch him continuously develop and hone his craft with Edmonton Collegiate. This summer was especially rewarding to watch, as he consistently performed at a high level every time he took the mound. His growth and success this season were truly special to witness.”

But the All-WCL honours don’t stop there for the Riverhawks!

Two more Hawks received All-WCL Honourable Mentions for their standout performances this season, and both were also selected to represent Edmonton at the 2026 WCL All-Star Game in Victoria back in July.

Shiryu Sato was recognized with an All-WCL Honourable Mention following a strong second season in Edmonton. The shortstop from Kawasaki, Japan, continued to make an impact at the plate, posting a .297 batting average with 14 RBIs and 23 runs scored across 28 appearances.

“Shiryu’s ability to make consistent contact, combined with his power potential, made him difficult to retire, and his speed made him a constant threat on the basepaths,” explains Lanferman. “It’s been fun watching him develop over the past two summers, and we’re excited to follow his journey as he takes the next step and competes at the University of Hawai‘i this year. We’re confident he’ll continue to make an impact at the NCAA Division I level.”

Rounding out the Riverhawks receiving All-WCL Honourable Mentions is starting pitcher Carter Fink!

Fink, a right-handed pitcher from NCAA Division I Niagara University, spent the first half of the season with the Riverhawks, picking up two big wins. He attacked the strike zone effectively in his appearances on the mound, highlighted by just one walk over 25.2 innings while recording 20 strikeouts.

Just as valuable as his performance on the field was Fink’s impact on the culture of the Riverhawks.

“Off the field, Carter was a leader in our clubhouse and a player everyone enjoyed being around,” explains Coach Lanferman. “His love for the game was evident, and the level of competitiveness he brought to every appearance was infectious to our team. We’re proud of what Carter accomplished this summer and excited to watch him continue to develop and take the next steps in his career.”

Congratulations to all of these Riverhawks on an outstanding season and their well-deserved honours! A huge thank you to the Riverhawks coaches and teammates for helping this group—and the entire team—find success on the field this summer.

Finally, a huge thank you to the 142,000+ fans who filled RE/MAX Field throughout the regular season. Your energy and support played a vital role in creating a memorable summer of baseball in Edmonton and an unforgettable experience for our players!
