Ina, Filipinos, Taylor Swift, New Canadians & Fans Stage Wonderful Weekend!

2023-07-02

Almost 7 Thousand Fans Pack RE/MAX on Canada Day!

It was our wildest weekend yet at RE/MAX Field as fans had a blast at everything from a Taylor Swift Dance Party to the Canada Day Fireworks - and everything in between!

Things got rolling on our Girls Rock Night as fans dressed in shimmering outfits headed out to the mound for the first pitch. After a visit from Canadian Olympian Shot Putter Sarah Mitten and an endless string of fun contests, T Swift fans crushed the entrances onto the field to listen to the icon's music played by Girls Club DJ and dance with Go Go Dancers and the hugely talented Dance Theme Academy.

Almost seven thousand people came to the ballpark on Canada Day despite cloudy, rainy weather. Nobody was going to let Mother Nature dampen their spirits! The day began with the swearing in of almost 80 new Canadians in a moving ceremony led by the Presiding Official, Mrs. Alexis Schloss. After the new Canadians said their Oath of Citizenship on the field, 10 year old Elif Bayza Ejder from Turkey, who had been separated from her dad for two years, threw a dart down the middle for the ceremonial first pitch. The crowd roared its approval!

There were non-stop contests and giveaways throughout the night, including a 12-hundred dollar camping package from ArrKann and a hot air balloon ride from RE/MAX. Then Brasstactics filled the air with their wonderful music before the light show to celebrate Canada's birthday. The fireworks were fantastic! The night was made perfect by the red hot bats of the Riverhawks, who crushed the Wenatchee AppleSox 11-2!

Sunday we celebrated Edmonton's 80 thousand member Filipino community and they lost it when they met Filipino Mega Star Ina Raymundo! Ina, Manny's Zoomba Dancers, the ladies and children in costume looked absolutely stellar. And then Ina threw a first pitch strike caught by her son, Edmonton Riverhawk infielder Jakob Portunak!

It will be hard to top that weekend but we will try to do just that when we stage Street Performers on Friday, First Responders on Saturday and Player Cards on Sunday!!!
