Series Still Salvageable As Riverhawks Need A Win To Stay In Playoff Race

2022-08-04

August 4 Game Preview

By Cody Schmidt

With back-to-back losses to the Port Angeles Lefties, the Edmonton Riverhawks are running out of space to stay competitive for the WCL playoffs. The Wenatchee AppleSox and Victoria HarbourCats have both slipped past the Hawks this week, with a game separating Edmonton from the top of the standings. When it comes to the overall standings, third and fourth place currently belong to the the Kamloops NorthPaws and the HarbourCats. Those positions matter because they fill in the lower seeds of the postseason, and again the Riverhawks have dipped out of those slots by a win as well. With only four games left to play, wins are critical if the Hawks want to extend their season past Sunday.

Last night the Riverhawks got the tying run to the plate in the 9th inning, but weren’t unable to overcome the late insurance runs put up by the Lefties. With the chance at levelling off the season series, the Hawks will need to pull ahead tonight. With 10 hits on Tuesday, and outhitting the Lefties last night, the Hawks have been doing all they can to push runs across, but a staggering 24 stranded runners in the series have done them no favours.

Tonight’s Riverhawks lineup:

1- #10 Clayton Loranger

2- #11 Kelly Corl

3- #25 Tom Poole

4- #26 Emiliano Gonzalez

5- #33 Alex Stinnett

6- #38 Jack Gurevitch

7- #24 Will Gardner

8- #8 Matt Masciangelo

9- #3 Aaron Stinnett

P- #20 Riley Barrett
