Riverhawks Close Out First Half Trying To Edge Out AppleSox

Hawks look to repeat the successes of their Canada Day victory

The Edmonton Riverhawks took Canada day in a spectacular fashion last night, winning 11-2 over the Wenatchee AppleSox. The Edmonton offence was unstoppable with baserunners in every single inning, nineteen hits, and some stellar pitching to boot.

Today’s afternoon matchup will finish both this series with the AppleSox and the Riverhawks’ first half of the season. Looking to secure their first home series win of the season, the Hawks will keep the bats swinging in the matinee. After this game the second half of the season will bring a standings reset in the North Division. There will be a renewed chance for the Riverhawks to secure their first ever playoff spot, as each half’s best team gets an automatic in to the postseason.

The AppleSox are in direct first half competition with the Bellingham Bells and Victoria HarbourCats. Another loss to the Riverhawks could be massively detrimental to the Sox’s chances of guaranteeing a playoff spot.

The second half starts with the Hawks welcoming the Kelowna Falcons for their first matchup of the year. The weekend series begins July 7, and the Riverhawks will play a pair of exhibition games against Team Alberta U18 on July 5 and 6.
