The Edmonton Riverhawks are set to take to the field for the first time this West Coast League season looking to build upon their most successful WCL campaign in 2023.

After getting a first weekend bye, the Riverhawks will open a three-game series with the Victoria HarbourCats Tuesday (June 3) at RE/MAX Field. The opening pitch is 7:05 PM MDT. Featuring Indigenous celebrations, Opening Night is sponsored by Global TV.

The Riverhawks made it to the WCL Final four last season after going 32-22 in the regular campaign while winning the second-half North Division pennant.

Edmonton sports fans continued their love affair with the baseball experience at RE/MAX Field as they helped the team set a West Coast League single game attendance record of 9,071 on Canada Day. They also helped break at WCL single season attendance record with almost 117000 people attending the Riverhawks twenty-seven home games last season.

The HarbourCats come into Edmonton sitting in a share for first place in the WCL North Division. They and the Kamloops NorthPaws are both unbeaten in three starts. Victoria was in Kelowna beating the Falcons this past weekend (9-5, 6-4 and 8-3).

Edmonton has over eight returnees from 2024 led by first baseman #35 Trent Lenihan (White Rock, BC). He is one of six players from the UBC Thunderbirds squad which made it deep into the 2025 NAIA championships.

Jake Lanferman is back for his fourth season with the Riverhawks. “Our success last year has helped with recruiting. We have good relationships with several schools both in Canada and the United States.” The Riverhawks will also have three players from highly touted Central Arizona Junior College this year.

WCL All-Star #14 Tate Dearing has returned and will be the opening night pitcher for Edmonton. Victoria has ten returning pitchers and a few key position players back from last year.

One interesting note is #21 Myles Chamberlain has returned for his third season with the Riverhawks and has now been joined by younger brother #18 Mason, who wore a HarbourCats uniform in 2024. Myles and returnee #2 Austin Egan are expected to be major workhorses out of the bull pen. Lanferman is also anticipating big seasons from #8 Matthew Ridsdale, and #24 Reece Devlin from the Collegiate Hawks of the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Conference.

Game two of the Riverhawks/HarbourCats series on Wednesday (June 4) is a 11:00 AM MDT start time. It’s to accommodate the 3rd annual School Spirit Game presented by Qualico. Over 7000 fans are expected to take in the event which will include wacky mascots, acrobatic Canines and explosive live science experiments on the field.

The three-game set wraps up Thursday (June 5) at 7:05 PM. The theme for the evening is “Edmonton’s Got Talent” sponsored by NOW! Radio. Tickets are available by visiting https://tickets.gohawks.ca/. If you can’t make it out to RE/MAX Field, you can watch tonight’s contest free on West Coast League TV
