Riverhawks Riding High Off Season's First Win

    2023-06-11

Hawks have first chance of the season to take a series W today

    By Cody Schmidt

After taking the second game of a double header against the Cowlitz Black Bears, the Edmonton Riverhawks earned their first win of the season. They’ll look to grab their second W today in the rubber match of the last road series before the home opener.

Leading the Hawks today is starter #27 Brendan Loeppky. This will be Loeppky’s third appearance this season, but his first start. In the 3.0 innings of relief work that Brendan has covered so far, he has struck out a pair, issued no walks and has yet to have given up a single run. It will be a good chance to stretch out for Loeppky, as it is his second start as a Hawk. Last year he made fourteen appearances, but only a single start in a late-season slugfest against the HarbourCats.

Behind Loeppky is a squad of Riverhawks ready to bust out another win:

    1- #1 Kelly Corl SS

    2- #15 Daniel Calabrese CF

    3- #34 Nico Libed DH

    4- #28 Mark Ossanna 1B

    5- #14 Tommy Takayoshi C

    6- #4 Carson Friesen RF

    7- #36 Jakob Poturnak 3B

    8- #31 Christian Grino LF

    9- #7 Brayden Morris 2B

    P- #27 Brendan Loeppky RHP

Included in today’s lineup two of the names responsible for cashing in yesterday’s winning run, Corl and Calabrese. Corl has already made a big impact in the lineup since joining the team in the middle of the Ridgefield series, going 3-for-8 with three walks in just three games. Calabrese has performed well in the top of the order as the current team RBI leader who has cashed in 5 runners, as well as made it home three times himself.

After this afternoon’s game, the Riverhawks will have a well deserved day off for rest and travel before returning to RE/MAX Field for the first home game of the season. They’ll take on the Kamloops NorthPaws who have a similar record, only winning their first game yesterday as well.
