Riverhawks Return to RE/MAX Field on a Winning Streak

2023-06-13

Hawks welcome the NorthPaws in home opening series

By Cody Schmidt

After a season opening road trip through Washington, the Edmonton Riverhawks are finally home at RE/MAX Field! Facing the Kamloops NorthPaws, the home opener should be a great time, especially as the Hawks are coming in riding a two game winning streak. As long as the rain stays at bay we should see the continuation of Edmonton’s fantastic starting pitching, as well as the recent surge from the bats.

Currently leading the team at the plate is #10 Jonny McGill with a .368 average. McGill was absent from the entire last series, so we will see if his bat will return to the lineup tonight. #28 Mark Ossanna has also seen his average above .300, and he hit the first Riverhawks home run of the season over the weekend. Plating the runners and contributing to both wins on the weekend, #15 Daniel Calabrese has the team lead in RBIs with 6. While there is still plenty of space for hot hitters like #14 Tommy Takayoshi in the Riverhawks leaderboards.

Key to keeping the last nine games from getting out of hand was the Riverhawks’ pitching staff. Starters #45 KJ Ward and #33 Halen Knoll have been able to go deep into multiple games while allowing low runs against them. On the mound in both starts and relief appearances have been #18 Riley Barrett and #3 Dallin Harrison, both of which had lasted 6.0 when starting games while also having scoreless relief stints.

The NorthPaws have had a similar beginning to their season so far, with an identical 2-7 record to the Hawks. The Edmonton squad will need to carry their momentum from the end of the road trip into this home stand so that they can level out their record.

#33 Halen Knoll leads the team home, with his third start of the year:

1- #15 Daniel Calbrese CF

2- #1 Kelly Corl SS

3- #14 Tommy Takayoshi DH

4- #28 Mark Ossana 1B

5- #2 Jack Wheatley 2B

6- #34 Nico Libed C

7 -#36 Jakob Poturnak 3B

8- #19 Will Garder LF

9- #6 Brett Ott RF

P- #33 Halen Knoll RHP
