The Riverhawks meet up for a three game series against the division leader this weekend

    EDMONTON, AB-

The Riverhawks continue their West Coast League home stand against one the top clubs in the North Division. After going 1-2 against the Bellingham Bells, the Riverhawks will test their mettle against the club leading the division: the Wenatchee AppleSox.

The three-game series begins tonight at RE/MAX Field. The opening pitch is 7:05 PM MDT.

The AppleSox sport a record of 11-4 and have won their last four outings. They are 7-3 in their last 10 starts. The Riverhawks, who lost 7-0 to the Bells last night sit in fifth place with a 8-7 record.

Riverhawks head coach Jake Lanferman has a pretty good idea of what sort of AppleSox squad they will be facing. “Knowing how they built their roster last year they will have strong arms. They play a very similar style to us I think. They are built on speed and they can always ‘swing it’. They always have. They are going to give us three pretty good games and I am excited to see what we can do.”

Edmonton will send #55 Carson Latimer to the mound tonight. “He is a power arm that is fun to watch. He has great movement on all of his pitches which makes it challenging for their hitters. If he throws strikes early in counts, it’s going to be a difficult day for their hitters,” says Lanferman.

Latimer ran his fastball up to 97mph in his previous start on the road, now it’s his turn to show the crowd at RE/MAX Field his fireball in first start at home. The right-handed Latimer is from Delta, BC and attends Sacramento State.

The AppleSox last visited Edmonton on July 27-29, 2024. The Riverhawks dropped the opener 7-1 but took the next two games 8-2 and 4-2. Edmonton is 6-9 all time against Wenatchee, who are celebrating their 25th year of operation.

The promotion tonight is Dark in the Park presented by Fort Edmonton Park. Fans can expect a visit from Mr. Dark and his eerie entourage. There will be apple bobbing, mountains of candy, fire juggling and a unicyclist. Children under 12 who come to RE/MAX Field in costume will get in free.
