Series With HarbourCats is Still Salvageable for Hawks

Despite already dropping the series with the Cats, the Riverhawks could upset the end of the series with a win

It was another bitter loss yesterday for the Edmonton Riverhawks as they went down 4-11 to the Victoria HarbourCats. The Hawks played their second strong game at the plate in a row, with thirteen hits across the lineup, but it didn’t amount to enough to fix the disparity in runs. Hawks batters will keep doing what they have been doing all series, adding on hits and refusing to go down quietly.

#42 Tom Poole had a huge night at the plate yesterday, going 4-for-4 with a walk. Keeping his batting average .500 across four games and 14 plate appearances, Poole has been a big spark to the Riverhawks lineup. Same goes for #10 Jonny McGill, who has a five game hitting streak after going 3-for-3 last night with a walk and a sac fly. The core of the Hawks’ lineup is hitting above .300 right now, with #15 Daniel Calabrese looking to join the club, sitting at .292. Calabrese does lead the team with 9 RBI, which is extra impressive considering how often he has had the top spot in the lineup.

After tonight’s game against the HarbourCats, the Riverhawks will make their way across Vancouver Island to Nanaimo where they will have their second series of the year against the NightOwls. This weekend set includes a Saturday double header, the first game of which serves as the make-up match for the rainout in Edmonton last weekend. Edmonton will play as the home team in game one, and both sides of the double header will be just 7 innings.
