Deciding Game Against Bells Tonight!
2023-06-29

The evening rubber match has the Hawk’s chance at the first home series win!
By Cody F. Schmidt
It was a rousing victory for the Edmonton Riverhawks last night, as they bounced back to win 5-4 over the Bellingham Bells. Strong relief pitching and a team effort at the plate helped the Hawks split the first two games of the series. Now as they enter the rubber match this evening, the Hawks will try to widen the crack they made in the Bells’ defence last night.
It won’t just be yesterday’s win being celebrated on the field, tonight the Riverhawks shine a light on Special Olympians, welcoming hundreds of athletes from Special Olympics Edmonton. RE/MAX Field will be packed with some of the brightest and most inspiring athletes in the city!
A key player for the Hawks is tonight’s starter #3 Dallin Harrison. Dallin’s last start came in Victoria where he had a solid first five innings, but ran into trouble in the 6th giving up a quartet of runs before being taken out. Harrison will instead try to replicate his previous appearance against the Bells where he went 3.0 innings in relief without surrendering a single run.

The bats have stayed hot for the Hawks since they’ve returned home, led by WCL Player of the Week #10 Jonny McGill. After last night’s game McGill had this to say regarding his experiences with the Riverhawks so far in 2023:
“Getting Player of the Week was a tremendous honour. It’s come from hard work I’ve put in with my coaches and my teammates. It’s great to see the returns. … It’s been cool to travel around with the pacific northwest [with the Hawks], getting to travel to a ton of new places has been really cool.”
