Lefties Gets Ahead in Extra Innings Against Edmonton

Hawks drop their second game this year to Port Angeles 3-2

PORT ANGELES, WA—
The Edmonton Riverhawks rallied from a two-run deficit but it wasn’t enough as they dropped a 3-2 extra inning decision to the host Port Angeles Lefties on Friday. It’s the opener to a three game West Coast League series in Washington State. The game went 10 innings.
The Lefties improved to an overall record of 13-21 (2-5 in the second half). Edmonton falls to 18-15 (4-3 in the second half. The Riverhawks and Lefties are now 2-2 in 2025 and 17-5 all-time. The Riverhawks have lost their last two games. The winning run was a solo homer by #12 Sam Matosich. He came into the game as a pinch hitter. It came off Riverhawks reliever # 14 Tate Dearing. Dearing was tagged with the loss and falls to 1-2 on the year. He was the fourth and final Edmonton pitcher and only appeared in the 10th inning.
Port Angeles opened the scoring in the bottom of the second. #25 Dom Dominguez doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly courtesy of #35 Danny Porras. Dominguez wound up 1-3 with a run batted in.
The Lefties went up by two one inning later. In the bottom of the third, #17 Jett Nelson walked and scored on a wild pitch.
#6 Mason Seay won his first game of the year for Port Angeles. He pitched three innings of relief, giving up one hit and striking out two. #35 Garrett Holpuch went seven innings as the starter for the Lefties. He surrendered seven hits and two runs, striking out nine and walking three. #15 Jason Becker started for the Riverhawks. He tossed six innings of one hit ball. He struck out four, walking two and gave up two runs.
The Riverhawks scored both their runs in the top of the seventh. #12 Stevie Waters was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a ground out and to third on a fielders choice. He scored on a #6 Robert Phelps RBI single to first base. Later in the inning, #36 Mitchell Middlemiss hit a two out single to load the bases. Phelps scored and the game was tied. Middlemiss went 2 -4 with a run batted in. #4 Jaxon Fox was also 2 -4 for Edmonton.
These two teams will clash against at Civic Field tomorrow. Opening pitch will be 7:35 PM MDT. You can watch it on https://wcleague.watch.pixellot.tv/.
The series winds up on Sunday (July 13) and then all West Coast League teams will break for the all-star break. The 2025 West Coast League Allstar Game will be played at Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham on Wednesday, July 16th.
Four members of the Riverhawks will be a part of the North Division team: 48 Max Stagg, # 35 Trent Lenihan, # 32 Jason Green and Phelps. One member of the Lefties # 13 Tommy Markey will also be part of the North Division squad.
Next home game for the Riverhawks is Friday July 18th when they open up a three-game set against the Kamloops NorthPaws. It will be Star Wars Night! Blast off to a galaxy far, far away as the ballpark transforms into a Star Wars spectacular!

EXTRA INNINGS: Going into play on Friday, Stagg stood third in the WCL in batting average at .375. Lenihan was seventh in average (.347) and fourth in the league in runs batted in (30). #21 Myles Chamberlain was tied for first in the WCL in victories (4) while #41 James Block was fourth in earned run average (2.63).
