Riverhawks Open Post All Star Break with a Massive 13-7 Victory

In their first game back from the all star break, the Riverhawks seemed to show no signs of rust whatsoever, erupting for 13 runs to take down the Lefties in Port Angeles.

Leading the charge was right fielder #36 Mitchell Middlemiss, who gave possibly his best appearances of his West Coast League career. The outfielder from Chilliwack, B.C. went 4 for 6, had 2 clutch HR, tallied 5 RBI’s and 3 runs! #53 Gianluca Montanaro also added to his home run total, cranking a 3 run bomb in the very first inning to give the Riverhawks an early lead. The Riverhawks are now 8-0 when putting up more than 10 runs in a game!

After it seemed the Riverhawks had taken firm control of the game with a 5 run, top of the 5th inning which put them up 8-3. However, the Lefties would keep it close, responding back with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to keep the game at a 1 run deficit.

After both teams would stay quiet for the next few innings, it was #36 Mitchell Middlemiss who delivered the knockout punch, bombing his second home run of the game to give the Riverhawks 2 key insurance runs. #48 Max Stagg would then put it out of reach, slapping a clutch 2 RBI single to put the Riverhawks up 12-7 with only 6 more outs to claim the victory.

On the mound, the starter #21 Myles Chamberlain kept the lefties at bay. The right hander went 4.0 IP, allowing 4 hits and 3 ER while tallying a season best 6 K’s.

The Riverhawks look to continue their hot start post all star break tomorrow in Port Angeles for game 2 of their 3 game series.

#53 Gianluca Montanaro set the tone in the 1st with a huge 3 run shot to left center, jumping the Riverhawks out to a quick 3-0 lead.

The Lefties respond with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second, as #11 Sam Matosich flies out to center, giving Port Angeles some life. In the bottom of the 4th, the Lefties would draw even off of a home run by #39 Caden Young. Port Angeles’s catcher finished 3/3 with 4 RBI’s, including the 2 RBI’s that would draw the game even at 3-3 in the bottom of the 4th.

The 5th inning would see both teams combine for an absurd 9 runs. #24 Cale Clark would crank a single to right field, scoring the leadoff hitter #13 Jaxon Fox to regain the Riverhawks lead. #36 Mitchell Middlemiss would crank his first home run of the game, a two run shot to add more insurance on the inning. #53 Gianluca Montanaro used his speed to score off a wild pitch, securing a 5 run inning for the Riverhawks, giving them an 8-3 advantage.Port Angeles did not go away that easily though, capitalizing on a 4 run bottom half of the 5th to maintain a 1 run deficit. #24 Ethan Wood doubled to score 2 runs, as #39 Caden Young would follow with his second home run of the evening, clawing the Lefties back to a score of 8-7.

#36 Mitchell Middlemiss and #48 Max Stagg would put the game away for the Riverhawks in the 8th. #36 Mitchell Middlemiss cranked his second home run of the game, securing 2 more runs for the Riverhawks. #48 Max Stagg would truly put the game out of reach with a clutch single to score two more, as the Riverhawks regained their 5 run advantage 12-7.

#36 Mitchell Middlemiss would put the cherry on top in the 9th, doubling down the infield line for his 5th RBI of the night, practically securing a sure Riverhawks victory.
