Long Ball Prevalent as Riverhawks Split Double Header with Lefties

Edmonton combines for 14 runs across both games

PORT ANGELES, WA—The baseball took a lot of trips out of the Civic Field ballyard on Saturday (July 18) in West Coast League play. The Edmonton Riverhawks and host Port Angeles Lefties hit no less than eight home runs as the teams split a doubleheader.

The Riverhawks won the regularly scheduled contest 4-2 to extend their winning streak to four games. The Lefties needed extra innings to capture the make up of a rained out contest between the two teams 14-11 in eight innings. Port Angeles and Edmonton were to have played a contest at RE/MAX Field in late June-but it was washed away.

The results leave the Riverhawks with a 21-17 overall record. The Lefties stand at 9 and 29.

The Riverhawks scored single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth inning as they record their 20th victory of the 2026 campaign. The Lefties scored both their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and had six hits in the ball game.

Edmonton was led by designated hitter #32 Jason Green. The Ontario resident went two for three with a home run. His homer came in the fourth inning when he sent it over the wall in right center field. He had three runs batted in . #24 Cale Clark was one for three with a run batted in. #54 Sam Wyrick won his first of the season. He threw five innings of three hit ball and struck out four. # 59 Christian Garcia came on in the seventh inning and earned the save pitching two thirds of an inning.

Port Angeles starter #2 Garrett Patterson was tagged with the loss. He is now 0-2 on the year going five innings, surrendering three runs on three hits, walking three and striking out five. Offensively, the Lefties were led by Thoma Holden who went one for three and hit a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the seventh.

The Riverhawks were the home team for this one as it was the make up of a contest originally scheduled for RE/MAX Field in June. That game was rained out. There were six home runs hit in this contest: four by Port Angeles.

The Lefties jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a half inning. Edmonton responded in kind in their half of the first inning. # 37 Connor Cavnar homered to right center with the bases loaded. The grand slam brought in #53 Gianluca Montanaro, # 33 Mitchell Middlemiss and # 57 Finnigan Stewart.

After Port Angeles got solo shots in the second and third innings to go up 6-4, Montanaro slammed a three-run shot to left field in the bottom of the fourth. That plated both Middlemiss and Green and gave the Riverhawks a 7-6 advantage. Edmonton added another run in the bottom of four. #48 Max Stagg scored on a Lefties throwing error.

Cavnar continued his power at the plate in the bottom of the fifth. He came up with a solo shot to left field to make the score 9-6.

The Lefties scored three times in the sixth inning and added a single run in the seventh to deadlock the game at 10. In the 8th inning, with the teams reverting to the WCL tie breaking rule which calls for two runners on base to start the inning, Port Angeles scored four times with the Riverhawks countering with 1 run.

The Lefties were led offensively by catcher #13 Carter Enoch. He was two for two with two runs scored and four runs batted in. Third baseman #30 Kaleb Cambell was three for five with a run scored and four RBI’s.

Dom Miller was the fifth Port Angeles pitcher and gained the victory. He is 1 and 0 on the year as he went two innings, giving up a run, a walk and struck out two.

Cavnar was the top Riverhawk at the dish. He went two for three with two runs scored and five runs batted in. Montanaro was one for three with two runs scored and three RBI. # 14 Nathan Ling fell to 2 and 1 on the season as he was charged with the loss. He pitched an inning and gave up four runs on three hits along with striking out two.

The Lefties and Riverhawks wind up their weekend series tomorrow (Sun July 19) at Civic Field at 2:35 PM MDT. #41 Trey Nance (2-0) is slated to pitch for Edmonton. You can watch all the games free on West Coast League TV: https://wcleague.watch.pixellot.tv/

The all time series record between Port Angeles and Edmonton have the Riverhawks up 23-7 going into Sunday’s tilt.

The Riverhawks then return home to entertain the Kamloops NorthPaws in a series starting Monday (July 20th). Edmonton is 14-10 lifetime against Kamloops.
