Despite 15 hits, the Hawks get knocked asunder in 21-8 loss

WENATCHEE, WASHINGTON–
The Edmonton Riverhawks will have to wait until another day to set their franchise record for straight victories. The Riverhawks had a five-game winning streak going into their West Coast League contest Tuesday in Wenatchee against the AppleSox.
In a battle of two of the hottest teams in the WCL, Edmonton gave up eight runs in the bottom of the second inning and fell to the AppleSox 21-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for Wenatchee who scored 21 runs on 13 hits and committed no errors. Edmonton had seven runs on 15 hits and three errors.
The AppleSox are now 7-6 in the second half (23-18 overall). The Riverhawks fall to 9-4 (23-16 overall).
After a scoreless opening inning, Wenatchee took advantage of some errors and walks to take a huge 8-0 lead in the bottom of the second. They sent 14 batters to the plate, getting three hits. That chased Edmonton starter #20 Reece Hemmerling. He surrendered eight runs on one hit, walking four while facing 11. His record falls to 2-2. He was the first of seven Edmonton pitchers utilized in this contest.
The AppleSox got a 2 run double from #2 Cade Martinez and a two-run single and a one run single from #32 Izzy Madariaga in that second inning.Wenatchee would go up 9-0 after three innings before Edmonton got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. #16 Kyle Yip singles to centerfield scoring #36 Mitchell Middlemiss who had earlier singled.The AppleSox regained their nine-run advantage in the bottom of the fourth. #7 Elijah Pelayo led off the inning with a single to centre field and then scored on a double by #6Adam Haight. #13 Kanoa Morisaki advanced to first on a dropped third strike and scored Wenatchee’s 12th run on Haight’s double.
The Riverhawks mounted a comeback in the sixth inning as they scored five times on four hits. Yip had an RBI single to left field scoring #42 Drew Veatch who was hit by a pitch. West Coast League all-star # 48 Max Stagg belted a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 12-4. Stagg now has 25 runs batted in on the season. Edmonton reduced the deficit to six when fellow WCL all-star #32 Jason Green’s double to left field scored both #35 Trent Lenihan (who had doubled) and #13 Grant Yzermans (who had walked). The AppleSox rebounded in their half of the sixth scoring four times on three hits. Haight led the offense with a two-run single to up the score to 16-6. The home team added four runs in their half of the seventh. # 17 Jehee Lee singled to centerfield. With the bases loaded, 1 Philip Cheong drew a walk bringing Lee home. #33 Jake Sanko singled and scored when Haight walked with the bases loaded. Then Morisaki was hit by a pitch and later plated when Martinez singled. Madariaga walked bringing home Cheong to up the count to 20-6.
Edmonton’s #12 Stevie Waters led off the eighth inning with a double to centerfield. He was followed by # 28 David Ossanna who tripled to left field. Ossanna’s RBI made the score 20-7. But in the bottom of the 8th, The AppleSox added more to their total. Pelayo singled to left field and scored on a ground out by Cheong.Haight led Wenatchee offensively going 2-5 with six runs batted in. Cheong was 0-4 with four runs batted in. Pulayo was 3-5 with three runs batted in and four runs scored.
Edmonton’s offense was led by Yip who was 3-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Stagg was 1-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in while Green was 2-3 with two runs batted in.
#22 Carson Boesel , the second of seven Wenatchee pitchers got the victory. He pitched four innings of seven hit ball, giving up a run, fanning four and walking 1. He is 2-2 on the season.
