KELOWNA, BC–
One dominant trait of the 2025 Edmonton Riverhawks has been their ability to hit the baseball. On Saturday night, at Elks Stadium in Kelowna, the Riverhawks pounded out 20 hits en route to a 13-3 come-from-behind victory over the host Falcons.
It was the Riverhawks’ third straight West Coast League victory (second in the series against Kelowna) and put them back atop of the North Division standings with a 12-5 record. It’s the same record as the Victoria HarbourCats, who lost to the Wenatchee AppleSox 8-2. Edmonton is first on percentage points.
In this game, the Riverhawks battled back from a 4-2 deficit by scoring four times on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. They also had a big ninth inning where they had six runners cross home plate on seven hits.The Riverhawks have an overall record of 26-17. Kelowna has fallen to 16-28.#48 Max Stagg went three for six with a run scored and four runs batted in (three coming on a homer in the fifth inning). # 29 Taichi Nakao was four-for-four with four runs scored and three runs batted in while #16 Kyle Yip wound up two-for-four with four runs scored and three runs batted in (two of those runs came on a homer in the top of the ninth.Stagg, Yip and Nakao all hit home runs for Edmonton in this one. Nakao’s came in the third inning and was his first of 2025. Yip and Stagg hit their fourth ‘dinger’ of the year.
Kelowna was led by #33 Justin Tsukada. He was three for four with a run scored. #38 JaceNagler was two for four with a run batted in while #3 Brady Kern was two for five at the dish with a run batted in.#15 Jack Becker got the start for the Riverhawks and moved to 2-1 on the season with the victory. Becker pitched six innings of 11 hit ball, giving up three runs, walking one and striking out two. Becker was supported by #11 Brandon Craven, #33 George Naramore and #24 Reece Devlin. Craven delivered one inning of one hit pitching. Naramore was on ‘the bump’ for an inning and a third while Devlin pitched two thirds of an inning.
The Falcons utilized four pitchers with their second, #18 Ethan Coronel getting the loss. He went four innings, giving up seven hits, three runs and striking out four. He is 0-2.These two teams will be back on the field at Elks Stadium tomorrow to wrap the series up. Opening pitch will be at 6:05 PM PDT.
