Wenatchee scores first, but Edmonton strikes back in a big way for 8-2 win

The Edmonton Riverhawks are back into the win column. The Riverhawks sent nine men to the plate in the sixth inning and beat the Wenatchee AppleSox 8-2 on Saturday (July 27).
7,263 fans took in ‘Newfie Kitchen Party’ night at RE/MAX Field. That pushed Edmonton’s season attendance total to 108,812. That is a new West Coast League record which they can add to on Sunday (July 28) in their final home game.
The victory snapped the Riverhawks’ 2 game losing skid and put up their record at 26-18 overall and 8-9 in the second half. Wenatchee falls to 11-6 in the second half and 27-15 overall.
The AppleSox scored two runs capitalizing on two Edmonton errors in the first inning.-in the sixth inning, Edmonton scored five times on two hits. Two of those runs coming on a single off the bat of#34 Jakob Poturnak. He was 3-5 on the night. He now has 40 RBI for the summer.
#6 Taichi Nakao scored twice for Edmonton. #1 Kaden Zarowny and #35 Trent Lenihan were both 2-4. Zarowny was named the Riverhawks player of the game.
#48 Fernando Palencia got the win and upped his record to 3-1. He went seven innings giving up five hits, two runs, struck out two and walked two. #28 Karsten Sweum was the second of three AppleSox pitchers. He falls to 0-2 with the loss. He pitched an inning and a third giving up five runs.
The AppleSox and Riverhawks conclude their series Sunday (July 28) with a 1:05 PM MST contest at RE/MAX Field. It is “Fan Appreciation Day.” Edmonton will conclude the 2024 WCL regular season with series in Victoria, Port Angeles and Nanaimo.
