The Edmonton Riverhawks were back at it again tonight, powering past the Nanaimo NightOwls for their second win in a row. the 7-0 shutout secures the series for Edmonton, and ties the season series between the two teams at 4-4. Five Hawks pitchers combined for the shutout, including innings from returning faces Brady Kobitowich and Hayden Morrison. The bulk of the game was carried by the second arm up, Owen McConnell who tossed from the 3rd through the 6th.

The Riverhawks had something going in the 2nd inning as both #1 Shiryu Sato and #4 Jaxon Fox walked to start the frame. #50 Chavis Conceicao then laid a textbook bunt to move the runners over in time for #23 Noah Brooks to deliver an RBI base hit. While Fox got caught in a rundown, a drive to the warning track by #42 Drew Veatch was enough to send Brooks home with an RBI triple.

#35 Trent Lenihan padded the score in the 6th with a 374 ft home run to the scoreboard in left. Two outs later the Hawks were back at it with walks to Conceicao and Veatch and a Brooks single to load the bags. A walk to #29 Taichi Nakao gave the Riverhawks a free run, then #16 Kyle Yip hit a single to right that the NightOwls couldn’t corral to earn a pair of RBI. #48 Max Stagg kept the rally going with an RBI base hit to make it a five run inning.

In his second start of the season #34 Jack MacIntosh tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless ball. While MacIntosh held Nanaimo from the scoreboard, he did find himself escaping bases-loaded situations in each of his innings. Coming in for the 3rd was #9 Owen McConnell, who tossed an easy inning with just a hit batter to atone for. McConnell’s 4th was even smoother with a perfect 1-2-3 inning. While the 5th had his first allowed hit, McConnell kept the Owls scoreless.

Coming in to the 7th, #30 Spencer Mueller ran into a little trouble as he walked his first batter then the Owls smacked a single up the middle. He navigated out of the jam including a strikeout looking to keep Nanaimo scoreless in the 7th. Returning to the Hawks roster for the 8th was #41 Brady Kobitowich, he gave up a walk and a single but kept the shutout going by retiring the next three Owls, including a K. Finishing things up was another returning face, #7 Hayden Morrison, who struck out his first batter, then quickly retired the next two NightOwls to secure the shutout.
