The Bells Toll Again for the Riverhawks

6th inning blowup the difference maker in second game of series
Box ScoreBy Cody Schmidt
One rough inning did in the Edmonton Riverhawks tonight as their second game visiting the Bellingham Bells in Washington was a 1-5 loss. While #15 Tylor Jans had a promising first inning, he was swapped out in a tense bases loaded situation for #3 Dallin Harrison. The 6th inning was the game loser for the Hawks, as #32 Noah Bourgeois who had taken over in the 5th was tagged for 5 runs.
The Riverhawks sole run came in an 8th inning rally as #36 Jakob Poturnak and #2 Jack Wheatley combined to put Poturnak on third base, just in time for a #10 Jonny McGill RBI ground out.
Otherwise offence was hard to come by for the Riverhawks, hampered for the second night in a row by extensive strikeouts. The lineup combined for twelve Ks this evening, including a 9th inning where the team was shut down by the entire side striking out swinging. The Hawks did plate their first two walks of the year, courtesy of #28 Mark Ossanna and #12 Eddie Saucedo, but they didn’t amount to anything in the larger game.
Finishing the game up after the Bells’ 6th inning onslaught was returning Riverhawk #27 Brendan Loeppky, and #35 Graham Seltzer. Both relievers saw an inning of work, allowed a hit apiece, and also each earned a strikeout.
With the potential of getting swept to start the season, the Riverhawks will need to give it their all tomorrow against the Bells. You can follow along with the 2:05PM MST getaway game by tuning into WCL Live, or following along online at @RiverhawksGames.
