Hawks try with a rally but can’t reclaim the deficit in 10-5 loss
Box ScoreBy Cody Schmidt
It was a close one until the last inning tonight, as the Edmonton Riverhawks had been sitting a run behind the Kamloops NorthPaws until the top of the 9th. The Paws scored five runs and chased two Riverhawks relievers in their final frame. Despite matching the Kamloops team for hits and taking nine walks, the Riverhawks couldn’t come back with their 9th inning rally.
Edmonton starter #37 Chas Wheatley was chased from the game before recording an out in the 4th inning. He ended up being charged with the first four NorthPaws runs. #8 Matthew Ridsdale and #27 Brandon Loeppky combined to carry the Riverhawks through the 8th inning, only allowing Kamloops to reach five runs to Edmonton’s four. After Loeppky loaded the bases with a walk and two singles, #16 Tylor Jans came in only managing to get a single out while walking in two bases loaded runs. #35 Graham Seltzer closed out the 9th, allowing one more run on a double steal.
The Riverhawks tried their best to come back in the bottom of the 9th, but the five-run gulf was just too much. The team did not face a single inning where they ended up going down in order, always getting a hit or at least a walk in, but not enough were strung together to catch up. The Hawks were patient walking eight times, but the same could be said for the NorthPaws
Both sides had struggles with control, with Kamloops throwing seven wild pitches across the game, and a number of passed balls from both sides. After dropping the series to the NorthPaws, the Hawks will try and rebound over the weekend.
