6-4 win over Bellingham, as Hawks have a bevy of extra-base hits
Box ScoreIt was a close pitchers duel until the back third, as the Edmonton Riverhawks broke the tie and stayed ahead of the Bellingham Bells. Evening out the series, the Hawks struck early and late, as they scored in the 2nd, 7th, and 8th.
The Hawks started the 2nd inning with a bang, as #36 Mitchell Middlemiss and #25 Royce Hale hit back-to-back warning track triples. Hale’s three-bagger scored Middlemiss, and an infield ground-out from #13 Grant Yzermans sent Hale home. Back at it in the 3rd, #48 Max Stagg earned his second walk of the game with one out, then #35 Trent Lenihan cracked a double to the right field wall to put both runners in scoring position. Unfortunately, a strikeout and a deep fly ended the rally before the Hawks could add on.
Aside from a couple of hits and walks in the 5th and 6th the Hawks were quiet through the middle of the game. Stagg broke the tie in the 7th with an RBI single straight up the middle scoring #5 Anthony Kodama who walked to lead off the frame. Middlemiss would follow up with an infield RBI single to tack on another run, then Hale would also reach by stealing home to end the 7th with the lead.
Working a little insurance back onto the scoreboard, Kodama would reach in the 8th thanks to an E6. With the toss into the dugout putting Anthony on second, #6 Robert Phelps’ two-out double would bring him home for the Hawks’ 6th run.
Starting pitcher #34 Jesse Kaphing had a great beginning to his game, retiring his first six batters in order. Kaphing was charged with a run after a single and a pair of walks loaded the bags, then a sac fly brought a Bell home. The Bells would score another off Kaphing in the 4th, leading off with a double, then the runner scooting home during a 6-4-3 double play. Noah’s day would finish after the 4th, and he’d end with his second no decision of the year, 3 hits and 2 walks against 2 earned runs.
#21 Myles Chamberlain took over for the top of the 5th and had a 1-2-3 first inning on the mound. Allowing two singles in the 6th, Myles worked out of the jam to keep the Bells off the scoreboard. Taking over in the 7th was #40 Rece Allensworth who tossed a one hit inning, then #33 Greg Naramore started the 8th. Giving up a runs on a pair of hits, Naramore only lasted for a single out before being replaced by #2 Austin Egan. Getting out of the jam with a 6-4-3 double play, Egan would only see a single batter. #14 Tate Dearing got the assignment for the 9th,
