Hawks scored in the 8th to take the W in a tight pitchers duel

Box Score

By Cody F. Schmidt

With just three hits in the game the Edmonton Riverhawks pulled off a come-from-behind victory in the 8th inning to start their series with the Bellingham Bells with a win. The Hawks stay competitive in the hunt for a early playoff berth, still staying just .5 games behind the Wenatchee AppleSox in the North Division.

The bats of the Riverhawks were largely held quiet tonight, with only two hits across the first seven innings of play. Finally awakening in the 8th the frame was started by a walk to #1 Kaden Zarowny. After Kaden was moved up from a #3 Michael Soper sac bunt, #47 Will Vasseur got to be the night’s hero with an RBI triple that rolled all the way to the warning track, tying the game. #36 Jakob Poturnak then put the winning run across with a sac fly to deep right field.

#16 Tylor Jans controlled the mound for the top of the 9th, he started the frame off with a swinging strikeout. after giving up a double that moved to third on a wild pitch, the Hawks avoided the tying run coming home thanks to a dynamite play at the plate for the second out.

Hawks starter #23 Brady Kobitowich was efficient through his 4.0 innings of work. While the Bells scored a run off him thanks to a sac fly in the 3rd, Brady was otherwise able to escape a couple jams caused by the pair of walks he tossed and five hits he allowed. In his second start of the season, Kobitowich went an inning longer than his previous outing. After Kobitowich, #48 Fernando Palencia made his second appearance of the season. Other than a leadoff hit in the 5th, Palencia had the Bells under his thumb for 4.0 innings, retiring his next eleven batters with a trio of strikeouts, and only one walk issued.
