Former Riverhawk Jack Gurevitch Drafted by St. Louis Cardinals in 3rd Round
2025-07-14

Highest-drafted Riverhawk ever joins a growing list of alumni heading to the pros
With the 89th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2025 MLB Draft, the St. Louis Cardinals have selected former Edmonton Riverhawks infielder Jack Gurevitch!
This milestone makes Gurevitch the highest MLB Draft pick in Riverhawks history, a proud moment for our organization, coaching staff and fans!
Jack played 21 games with the Riverhawks during our inaugural 2022 season, collecting 21 hits, 10 runs, 15 RBIs, and launching a home run over the fences at RE/MAX Field.
Originally from Southern California, Gurevitch joined the Riverhawks straight out of Notre Dame High School before beginning his collegiate career with the University of San Diego Toreros. Now 21 years old, he’s coming off a standout season at USD, where he was named to the All-West Coast Conference First Team after batting .371 with 17 home runs, 56 RBIs, 35 walks, and 5 stolen bases across 56 games.
The West Coast League has had a strong showing at the 2025 MLB Draft, highlighted by former WCL pitcher Tyler Bremner of UC Santa Barbara being selected second overall by the Los Angeles Angels. Bremner, a former Corvallis Knight, now ranks as the third-highest WCL alumnus ever drafted, trailing only No. 1 overall picks Adley Rutschman (2019) and Travis Bazzana (2024).
Two other WCL standouts joined Bremner and Gurevitch on day one of the draft: Aiva Arquette (Wenatchee AppleSox) was taken 7th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Ethan Hedges (Corvallis Knights) went in the 3rd round to the Colorado Rockies.
Gurevitch now joins an impressive group of Riverhawks alumni making the leap to professional baseball:
Ivan Brethowr (2022): 7th round pick, 2024 – Chicago Cubs
Ryan Magdic (2022): 14th round pick, 2024 – Oakland A’s
Gavin Smith (2024): 17th round pick, 2024 – Toronto Blue Jays
Izaak Martinez (2022): 18th round pick, 2024 – Cleveland Guardians
Vicarte Domingo (2024): 19th round pick, 2024 – San Diego Padres
Tommy Takayoshi (2023–2024): Signed as a free agent with the Oakland A’s
Congratulations to Jack as he takes the next step in his baseball journey!
