Riverhawks Pitcher Carson Latimer Drafted by Cincinnati Reds

    2025-07-14

The Canadian Flamethrower Is Off the Board!

Current Edmonton Riverhawks pitcher Carson Latimer has been selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 12th round of the 2025 MLB Draft!

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander from Delta, B.C. has been outstanding on the mound this summer. In four starts for the Riverhawks, Latimer has thrown 21 innings, earning two wins, 21 strikeouts, and boasting an impressive 0.85 ERA. One of the biggest reasons for his draft-day appeal? His electric arm.

Carson’s signature moment came on Canada Day, in front of a packed house of 9,200 fans at RE/MAX Field, when he lit up the radar gun at 99.2 MPH—a Riverhawks record, and believed to be the fastest pitch in West Coast League history.

The Canadian joined the Riverhawks in mid-June following his collegiate season with Division I Sacramento State. During his time with the Hornets, he made 15 appearances—including seven starts—finishing with a 2-3 record and a 6.14 ERA. In 36.2 innings pitched, he recorded 28 strikeouts and 26 walks.

With Carson’s selection, the Riverhawks’ MLB Draft tally rises to eight players in just four seasons of West Coast League play, reflecting a growing record of talent making stops in Edmonton.

Head Coach Jake Lanferman had nothing but praise for the Riverhawks’ standout pitcher:

"Carson represented our organization and community with exceptional pride and character this summer. His competitive edge and composure on the mound are contributing factors to his pro level arsenal. He's an outsdtanding talent but an even better person. We're wishing you all the best with your pro career, Lat."

Congratulations, Carson! The Riverhawks and fans across Edmonton are proud to cheer you on as you begin your pro journey.
