Riverhawk Alumni Jonny McGill Has signed With the Los Angeles Angels as a Non-Drafted Free Agent!

Jonny McGill has signed a major league deal with the Los Angeles Angels!

The slugging outfielder served as a Riverhawk for 65 games across the 2023 and 2024 season. In 2023, Jonny led the way for the Riverhawks offence, totalling a team leading 56 total hits, 9 doubles, and 23 RBI’s. His .329 batting average ranked 8th best in the entire WCL that year, solidifying himself as an All-WCL mention.

The Richmond, British Columbia native decided to stay close to home for his collegiate career, playing all 4 of his college seasons with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.

While finding success at the plate across those 4 college seasons, McGill really caught the eyes of MLB scouts in 2024-2025. Offensively, Jonny absolutely raked for the Thunderbirds, leading all UBC starters with a .405 batting average, while cranking a team leading 20 doubles, 18 home runs, and carrying a slugging percentage of .768. McGill was also a part of Thunderbirds history, as UBC clinched their first NAIA World Series appearance since 2006 this past season.

McGill spent his 2025 summer with a small stint for the West Virginia BlackBears, a prominent MLB Draft League collegiate team. He posted a solid campaign, hitting a .270 batting average, along with 11 RBI’s in just 19 games. Jonny also showed off his illustrious power with multiple of his hits being over 100 MPH, including a recent 107.4 MPH single.

Jonny joins a continuously growing list of Riverhawk alumni, as he becomes the 10th player in Riverhawks history to be signed/drafted to the MLB.
