WE LOVE THE RIVER VALLEY AND WE LOVE OUR TREES IN THE RIVER VALLEY!
The Edmonton Riverhawks are excited to unveil our 2026 Edmonton-inspired alternate identity jersey: the River Valley Tree Huggers!
Following in the footsteps of past Edmonton-inspired alternate identities like the Green Onion Cakes, the Silver City Dragons, and the Talus Balls, the River Valley Tree Huggers pay tribute to one of the city’s greatest landmarks: the North Saskatchewan River Valley.
Because the River Valley isn’t just a valley. It’s where you go for a peaceful bike ride and somehow end up climbing 400 stairs. It’s where picnics happen. It’s where e-scooters thrive. It’s where people go to reconnect with nature, touch grass, and pretend they enjoy uphill hikes.
And of course… it’s a place where you can hug trees. A LOT of trees. Like probably over six million of them.
Oh, and did we mention Edmonton’s River Valley is the largest urban park in North America, stretching across an area 22 times the size of New York’s Central Park?
Which feels like a pretty good reason to make a baseball jersey about it if you ask us.
The River Valley Tree Huggers jerseys, designed by local artist Mike Lundy, celebrate everything we love about the valley: the greenery, the trails, the parks, and the North Saskatchewan River itself.
And yes, that includes bark-inspired pants, because if you’re going to become one with the River Valley, you might as well fully commit.
The result? Our players officially transform into the trees of Edmonton’s River Valley. WE LOVE OUR HOME IN THE THE RIVER VALLEY, WE LOVE THE TREES IN THE RIVER VALLEY, AND NOW WE HAVE THE PANTS TO PROVE IT!
To go along with the River Valley Tree Hugger jerseys, the Riverhawks are excited to launch brand new Tree Hugger tees and hats! As part of the Tree Huggers identity, the Riverhawks are also teaming up with our friends at Root For Trees Edmonton.
Root for Trees is the City of Edmonton’s volunteer tree-planting initiative, helping increase tree and shrub planting across the city with support from corporations, local businesses, community groups, teams, families, and individual residents.
We’re proud to call the river valley the home of the Riverhawks, and we’re encouraging fans to join us as we work together to help it grow!
Organizations like Root for Trees play a huge role in keeping our city green and creating spaces for all Edmontonians to enjoy. This summer, we’d love for Riverhawks fans to be part of it too. The River Valley Tree Huggers will first take the field on Saturday, May 30th on WE LOVE THE RIVER VALLEY (go touch grass) NIGHT!
